I'm interested in hearing ya'lls opinion on the recent coaching changes and the short term effects on our program.

Current players- was the departure of recent coaches and hiring of the current staff raise or lower the moral or excitement of the current players??
Is the change of coaching philosophies better or worse for our players?
IMO the replacement of Dawson with Gran was a step in the direction in which the program needed to take. A veteran coach who knows what he wants and how to get it from his players.
The lose of Coach Buh was huge because it seemed like he was building excitement with the special teams. it looked like he had the ST headed in the right direction.

Recruiting- Some players have had multiple coaches recruiting them from UK because of the turn over. An example of Mac Jones with Dawson then Gran.
Also, do they view us as an unstable program because of the constant coaching changes.

My options are losing Dawson and gaining Gran is nothing but better short term long term or any term. A guy who couldn't move the ball past the 50 yard line vs. UL a man who has the ball inside the 2 yard line 3 times at Vandy but still plays out of the shotgun formation each time is a liability anywhere he goes. The moron could be calling plays at Bama or New England with the best talent in the world and with a philosophy like he applies it will fail.

Nowhere to go but upward IMO.

It's hard to say about the recruiting aspect of it. Dawson wasn't really at UK long enough to build many relationships with kids so I don't see that as being much of a factor at all. If he had been a 3-4 year assistant then it could have been an issue.

As for the coaching end of it, Stoops being a defensive guy, I think he has struggled with what exactly he wants from his offense and I think he has struggled with trying to be hands off of the offense too. Its not uncommon, Saban teams had very conservative offenses until Kiffin showed up and opened the passing game up some, Muschamp had real issues with it at UF. I don't think Stoops was on Muschamp's level, but his first OC's were young guys who were probably a little intimidated by Stoops and didn't want to run something he might question and made them second guess themself. Gran is a more experienced guy who won't be afraid to tell Stoops to go coach the defense and let him run the offense.

I think its good hire by Stoops. At least that's my theory, it's what Kirby did for us, Muschamp went the same route he did at UF, I think it's even the last of 4 he hired during his 4 years at UF. They don't have UF talent on the defensive side and unless Muschamp allows them to open things up offensively they will be taking up equiptment after the Clemson game.

Ainsley hurt, he was almost as good as marrow,as,a recruiter and a really good position coach.

Wr is probably an upgrade from what I've seen so far. Mainord was getting some talent out of dmv but I think Thomas will get more and better out out of Florida in the next couple years.

Gran and hinshaw are gonna be tons better all around. Both appear to already be doing as well as Scott and Dawson in recruiting and are upgrades as position coaches.

I think Gran gets the added bonus of helping calm stoops on GameDay. I think losing peveto a few years ago left us with a very inexperienced staff. Gran has the experience to calm the whole offense when things go bad.

You asked if the changes were good for moral - IMO - YES, YES, YES! The way the wheels came off the team the last half of both seasons had to take it's toll on the players and the dedicated staff. Some of the assistants we lost, had to feel badly about what was happening and then they had chances to improve themselves and be reach their personal goals. No one can blame them and we should be happy for them.

However, I think Coach Stoops has made some excellent choices and no matter what people say, it will take time to see their affects as to recruiting and acceptance. We have a lot of potential now we didn't have when the first staff was brought on board. We have some good pieces in place and I expect a good year this year - which I think the coaching changes made will be fruitful will turn the program in a very positive manner.

I fully expect a winning season and not just 6 wins either! When that happens - you will see recruiting blow up even more with this staff and Kentucky become a bowl team year in and year out with opportunities to do things on the National picture. I think that Drew Barker and hopefully followed by Mac Jones is going to create some exciting teams at Kentucky. I think Kentucky's loyalty to Mark Stoops over this period will also keep his loyalty to Kentucky when those things occur!

Go Big Blue!
