College Basketball Programs Valuations per WSJ

The author of the list is on drugs! That is all.
Idiots are still stuck on 22K cash flow. There is a simple fact in these valuations, they lack full access to required data and just as bad, there isn't standardized data from each program. Its a foolish list and WSJ should know better.

I don’t know that UK is one, but that seems a little low.
Would like to know if not owning Rupp hurts or helps. I’ve always argued that it needs to be on campus and owned by the program…but maybe not.
UL has always outkicked their coverage somehow in terms of worth/rev/profit. Yum, Papa John, and Brown Foreman I think play a role in that. 3 global multi billion dollar industries right there helps.
Japanese car makers and Saudi princes who love horses don’t give a **** about basketball or football. So Lex doesn’t have much. The town isn’t keen on expansion/development. Lots of great land that the old folk don’t seem to want to let go.
Bigger city, more people, more industry clearly plays a role. See Syracuse. Minnesota proximity to the Twin Cities. Illinois and Chicago.

There are so many variables to the value/worth of something like a team. Pro Football - Value/worth for the Steelers is measured by the fans all over the usa flying the black and gold colors. It is Notre Dame football with catholic fans all over the world. It is University of Kentucky fans all over the world that follow UK.
None of these 3 examples are the most $$ net worth but all have more worth than any of the teams being listed above UK in value. I did not even look at WSJ article. Do not need to.
Those 3 examples is just a short list. Many more to that list, Cowboys / Celtics / UNC / Alabama and so forth.

I agree. I thought the valuation seemed low, but there is no way to really know, it seems. Your point about Rupp Arena is a good one. Regards corporate involvement, I've always found it interesting to note that Kroger Field is named for a Cincinnati Company. Money talks, as always.
The article states IU benefits from being in a state without major professional teams. What? Apparently the author hasn’t heard of the Colts and Pacers. That alone is reason not to give his rankings any attention.

Its silly at best. As someone with real world experience in acquisitions, mergers and divestitures I can promise you it is silly. It is difficult enough to value and entity when you have a willing buyer/seller that are both forth coming with information. I cannot imagine trying to do it from afar with sketchy info. Ask yourself. If I had 100 million to buy a "college franchise" would I base the purchase price on a WSJ article. I won't wait for your answer.
As for UL, they have a huge subsidy in the YUM center. Huge. And it's at the expense of the tax payers in Louisville. Well documented.
