I actually think the piece is significant.
I'd argue that Chicago Magazine (now Tribune Media - owned, I believe) would not dedicate similar space to any other college sports coach in the area/state. For those of us who have read Chicago magazine since John Fink was editor back in the 80's, it's hard to imagine any of the state teams getting this coverage or the local private school teams. (I'm easily disproven with an example that contradicts this)
I think it's good for expanding the fan base. Frankly, there are a lot of NU alums who live in the area and did not get pulled in last year because they don't regularly follow sports.
Not sure this does a whole lot for recruiting, but you'd rather have it than not have it.
So, good get by the NU Sports information staff.
