Watch out for Columbia next Friday. They are a preseason choice to win the Ivy and put up 107 on Kean College yesterday. They should probably be favored going into the game and will be a huge challenge for NU. Hope Collins gets the Cats attention for that game or it could be a long night for NU.

Good point. The Columbia game will really test the 'cats. It reminds me of the Northern Iowa game last year. Can someone give reports on Tap, Lindsey and Lumpkin from last night's game? They need to make solid, consistent contributions if NU is able to reach its goals.

Taking a step back, the teams in the Big 10 that NU is competing with for NIT and maybe NCAA bubble contention have struggled this pre-season and last night in Iowa losing to Division II team Augustana, W.Illinois beating UW and N.Florda (a good team from the Atlantic Sun) beating UofI. Monmouth beat UCLA and they were a number of other upsets by schools from major conferences.

Tap: Played with more confidence, still a couple steps slow on defense. Stepped up and hit a couple of big 3's when the game was still in doubt.

Sanjay: Great effort on the boards. Missed one open 3, and was rejected on a nice feed underneath. Plays within himself, knows his role and his limitations. Still foul prone.

Lindsey: Coule of dunks on athletic moves around the bucket, inconsistent on D. By far the best player of the 3 though. Look for a break-out game soon.

Columbia will be one of our toughest games during this non-conference, but come on. We're not going to be home 'dogs to an Ivy, right?

Based on the current KenPoms, probably not going to be a dog.

I agree, but if you can take Columbia and the points, do so! They have two really good players: a Guard from Germany, and a forward who was hurt last season. They also have a 7'1" Center who will be a banger against Olah and JvZ. All I'm saying is, this will be the most competitive non-conference game at WRA and one that the Cats better be "up" for. No gimme, no matter what KenPom says 1 game into the season......

Columbia will be a good test for NU but your not basing this on them beating Kean College are you?

Agreed, not saying they will cover (will probably be a spread around 8-10 if current trends cotinue), but believe that we would have to play badly to lose to them at home.

This is where I respectfully disagree. NU can play well and still lose. Columbia has talent and may well play better than a good NU team and beat the Cats. NU better bring their A game.

Last season, Columbia gave Kentucky all they could handle in Rupp Arena and didn't have their forward Rosenberg. They lost 56-46 holding UK to their lowest point total of the season.

They did. But they also lost games to Stony Brook, St. Francis (NY), Cornell, Yale, Princeton twice, Harvard, Dartmouth, Yale and Penn. By all accounts, they have some injured guys back, and they have some good talent. And anyone can win or lose any college game, as we saw this week with Illinois and Wisconsin, among others. While I never discount the NU Chaos Theory, this was a 13-15 Ivy team last year; we will have more talent on the floor than they will, and it will be beyond disappointing if we don't win the game.

Watching the game now on some ESPN overflow channel. Columbia is pretty athletic. They have two starters who didn't play due to injury last season, which can explain why they were up and down last year. Their best player is a guard called Lo, who is very quick and will be a handful for either BMac or Tre. Kid shot 11 of 15 from 3 against Princeton last year, not too shabby. Columbia's weak link looks like their 7'1" Center, who makes Alex Olah look nimble and quick.

K State looks OK. They aren't big but are very athletic. Like to run. No serious inside game from a Center. Columbia can't buy a 3 starting 0-6 and are down 11 early.

Columbia seems to be to you what EIU is to Felis. If we lose to Columbia, we are not going to any postseason for the 3rd year in a row.

That's a bit harsh. There is a huge difference between the skills of EIEIO and Columbia. But I take your point.

And for the record, it would be the 4th season in a row not going to any tournament........

Yes, yes it would. :(

I didn't mean to be so harsh and invoke he who must not be named. I saw some of the KState-Columbia game last night...they aren't a bad team, but one we should be able to handle.

Hopefully Collins has the boys ready to go against that beautiful 1-3-1 ameoba they had going.

I like NU's chances against KSU should the [other] Cats lose to Mizzou.....
