It's been mostly skilttles, rainbows and happy, happy times with Beamer. There is a comeuppance coming, and sorry to say it, but it'll likely be this weekend vs. Vandy.
While we have been focused on "team culture" (and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that), Vandy had been focusing on football - every bit of it.

They are coming in riding high, absolutely laser focused, better coached and more disciplined.

It seems we spent too much time in the offseason reading the praise from the media. Beamer included. There’s no dog in this team.

I suppose if there is a silver lining, it’s that the first two games in which we played like horse doo doo came against terrible teams that we were able to beat anyway. So at least we know going into our first serious game that we really aren’t all that good and have a lot of work to do.

For those who watched both games yesterday, please give me some hope. Oddsmakers are usually right but our offense struggled mightily while they outscored Va. Tech. 34-0 in the 2nd half in Blacksburg. I figured it could be a pick`em but if I had to bet it wouldn`t be on us. Hope I`m missing something and are underestimating what we are capable of.

Their QB scares me, However like a poster earlier said, It is Vandy.. Hopefully Shula has been Vanilla for some reason, Maybe not showing all. Too many runs right up the middle against SC state, However it was a Wet field and the delay didnt help. HOWEVER, i still think SC pulls this out by a few.. Maybe like 28-24, it is gonna take a special play from Swain i am guessing..

We have better talent. It depends on what the coaches do with it.
Vandy will be practicing punt coverage to stop our offensive output :D
On offense do we have more talent? Show me a stat that says we better at any position including Qb

I will say this ... Beamer's teams have shown the ability to bounce back after a disappointing start. We played poorly against ODU last year but came back and beat UK and within a ref's whisker of beating LSU.
To a certain extent, that is true. I'd love a different M.O. though.

Don't you mean you spent too much time reading praise from the media in the offseason, DarkBOT?

So Vandy is now your latest alter?

I guess Chadwell and the others will have to find new groupies.

The primary reason Vandy has surged the over the past year is because a coach they hired from New Mexico brought a talented QB with him in tow.

It's not that complicated.

To spite the fact we're up against the second coming, we're 7.5 point favorite going into the contest on Saturday.

What do the professional oddmakers see that you don't?

For the sake of optimism, this is what I'm hanging my hat on. Last year, we rushed 34 times for 108 yards against ODU. Even in the win at Kentucky, we rushed 34 times for only 86 yards. Then, the next week against LSU, we rushed 41 times for 243 yards against a much stouter defense.

I'm hoping for a similar level of improvement between weeks 1 and 3 this year.

Don't look now but Caesars has it at 5.5. This is such a trap game. Beamer better have them focused and figure out his offensive issues or it will be a long night.

It's possible. I still like us at home in this one more than the matchup in Missouri the following week. We'll see though.

When people say "it is Vandy?" have they forgotten that Vandy beat Alabama(I know not the Saban variety) last year and have beaten more than one good team recently.

I say that. Mostly its a stubborn refusal to admit they are within shooting distance. It worked last year. :)

I believe that Vandy has not seen much of our offense in the last two weeks. We were basically a vanilla offense which seems horrible to our supporters. I believe we have a lot more in our play book.

One can hope. It wouldn't be the first time.

We'll see, but we're 5 years in and our OL still stinks, our RB room is still thin, and our OC is not very good. It's a trend. I'm afraid our HC is a special teams coordinator.

Can't argue with the ST performance though, right?

Shula hasn't done anything since the bowl game last year to make me think he's an evil genius, so I'll just have to see for myself.
Dating back to the Clemson game, which was under the previous OC, our offense has scored 17 points in 4 straight games.

Stuck in neutral.

That movement tells me people were loading up on Vandy. Vegas sets the odds so they will end up with the bets place on each team 50/50 ideally so they will make their money on the juice. Vegas doesn't really set lines based on how they think the game will go.

That tells you? That's exactly what it means. The line is going to continue to drop.

I think Beamer has an ego problem. He's not bright enough to out-scheme anyone. He works hard, he's a decent recruiter, and he luckily struck gold with CW. But a smart coach, like Vandy's, will run circles around him. Unless our talent is significantly better, and I don't think it is, Vanderbilt is going to win.

Unfortunately, I think you are totally correct. ☹️

What?

Shane Beamer can coach.

He has the most wins in history as it stands today after 50+ games.

He's also beaten more ranked teams than Spurrier did over the same time frame.

I have no idea what's going to happen on Saturday -- but people said the same thing about Vandy and their fancy QB last year and we hammered them on their homefield.

It was their worst loss all season.

Make it make sense. :)

When Vegas starts a line at 7.5 in one teams favor - that's a pretty good sign of which team they believe is stronger.

The line sits at 5.5 as of now. It might change but that's not a big swing over 36 hours.

So, does the change in the line mean Vegas thinks Vandy has gotten stronger or Carolina has gotten weaker?

Vegas doesn't think anything after they establish the line.

It means that early gamblers liked Vandy with extra points with tow and the line adjusted to accomnodate/balance.

RB rom is thin? We have plenty of good RBs…line needs to block better
