Watched the sequel to Coming to America last night which is available on Prime for free 😄

The story line fell right in with the original and most of the original cast is back and characters including the barber shop guys and Rev. Brown (Arsenio Hall) and in addition Wesley Snipes played a great "bad guy" roll. Morgan Freedman and Gladys Knight and others had cameos. Nothing will ever equal the original IMO but for a sequel this one comes close.

I'll have to check it out.. the trailer did it no justice, though. The same barbershop bit we've seen over and over? I cringed.

Then again, so damn tough to make the a comedy sequel that's 10+ years later (or in this case 30). For that reason I still haven't seen Super Troopers 2, and I don't think I ever will.

Aside from the first two Shrek movies, I haven't watched any Eddie Murphy movie since I saw Pluto Nash on television about fifteen years ago. If Coming 2 America does well, what are the odds that we see Beverly Hills Cop IV, Yet Another 48 Hrs., or Trading Places Again?

I tried as I loved the first - but after about 5 minutes I just couldn’t. Morgan Freeman had just introduced En Vogue who was starting to sing “what a king” and I turned it off. I was half expecting it to be awful anyway so maybe I didn’t give it a fair chance but no thanks

Haven’t watched yet, but you all are pretty critical about a free movie.

I admit the first part of the movie was like watching 2 or 3 super bowl halftimes shows - a lot of choreography mixed in with miscellaneous craziness, but about half way through the story line picked up and it became really funny and entertaining IMO.

It’s terrible. Absolutely reached and stretched and kind of ruined the original by crapping all over every tie in they tried to incorporate.

I don't think Eddie Murphy is as teflon as Dave Chappelle is. I don't see how Eddie could say most of the things he used to.

Not sure what you mean by any of that.
Someone mentioned Murphy going back to stand up. It seems when Dave Chappelle returned to stand up, he could say pretty much whatever he wanted and didn’t get ‘cancelled’ or anything, and he definitely hasn’t cooled off in that way. If Eddie returned to stand up, I don’t see him having the same leeway to talk about things like he did in his early standup career.

Shari Headley still looks fantastic 30-years later.

I was excited for the progress they made in casting a trans actor like Leslie Jones, but ultimately I was concerned about the lack of diversity for an American-made film released in the 2020s. I had to turn it off because it was just too uncomfortable.

Dave is woke so he's allowed to say things.

I didn't have huge expectations for this movie, but after watching it, I liked it but didn't love it. The original is probably in the top 3 or 4 of my favorite comedies. I wasn't disappointed in the sequel though. It was good to see most of the characters 30 years later.

Yeah no way could it live up to the original but it was OK in a nostalgic kind of way. I echo the comment I saw about Shari Headley. She's still fine as Hell.

I thought that James Earl Jones was a hoot in it too. Give it a solid C plus.
