Computer gadget needed

I need a device to access two computers through one monitor. (desktop & laptop) The monitor needs to be connected using HDMI cables (not VGA) and I want to share the mouse and keyboard as well.

I believe this is a KVL switch, but I am not seeing the right combination on Amazon. Recommendations?

That's called a KVM switch. I use one now to do exactly what you need done. It has a little switch that lets me toggle between the two machines. Some of them use a keyboard command to do the same thing. They cost about $30.

I set mine up with a NAS controller on a PEZ network. Works great for me!

Use Synergy. Only need one mouse and keyboard and you can switch computers on the fly. Free (or at least it used to be) and fairly easy to set up. I’m assuming the laptop screen is big enough for you to use.
