Conditioning?

What is up with Iowa's conditioning? It seemed in every match (even the lone match where Iowa won) the Iowa guy was sucking wind HARD in the second or third periods. This is even more puzzling given that in many matches the Iowa guy took between 0 and 2 shots, and likely finished none of them.

Iowa has ALWAYS had athletes that were tough and had ELITE conditioning. I'm talking guys who could look fresh well into 3OT. Think Brent Metcalf and Austin Desanto. Now the whole team looks like they are breathing through coffee stirrers. On the flip side, the only Penn State guy who looked gassed was Braeden Davis, who was literally on redshirt until about 10 days ago -- it is not surprising he is not in top wrestling condition right now.

What gives?

At one time you could outwork people and win, the strongest will survive. What the Wes has learned from the Soviet market etc. as how to modify training and cycle it up and down to peak at certain times.

Rest and recuperation is as important as hard work . I think the Browns Brothers are the old-school types who just try to work hard harder, but they're not working smarter.

A serious question. You do realize anyone learning from the Soviet Union was a really long time ago... Verkhoshansky/Siff and "Supertraining", was released May 2000.
Vladimir Zatsiorsky started at Penn State in 1991. Dr. Zatsiorsky was the Director of the Biomechanics Laboratory from 1995 until 2015. They were two of the most prominent from the Soviet Union to bring their knowledge to the U.S. Medvedev brought the science over in the 70's - 80's.

If you think Cael is/was using those training methodologies... Maybe the "Browns" brothers are!

Voice texted there, lol but maybe they aren't? It awhile for Penn State football team to actually somewhat use those principles.

Louis Simmons was familiar with that book super training ye,and did deal with Mel Siff. Not everyone was quick to adopt those Soviet methods.
I studied at the Bio Lab at Penn State, Mel was a close friend before he passed as I spent time at his home in Colorado learning recovery and seated fitness from Lisa, met Chris Doyle at Westside while buying my first reverse hyper from Louie. My undergrad from Iowa.
Penn State football has really never adopted much from the lab, but wrestling has...

Back in a day when I would complain about their strength and conditioning I remembered a used to have those hammer strength machines.

I know they got away from that some degree but football coaches think they're strength coaches. When I was younger I could outlift many of the linemen at a 100 lbs lighter . I followed Louie's programming then Josh Bryant up to five years ago.

There’s zero doubt the ped state folks are ona good mix. There is no testing
That is the dumbest thing I've heard in a while. It's nice that you target young men who try to do things the right way. Please explain that idiotic statement when looking at a picture of Dean Peterson last night and a picture of Luke Lillendal lmfao.

Our lack of conditioning might be the single biggest red flag regarding the coaching staff. If a Brands coached Iowa wrestling team isn't in shape that's a major canary in the coal mine.

Flu bug has been going through the room. Just about everyone looked completely gassed against Wisconsin. They had more stamina Friday night, but still weren't to 100%. They'll look less gassed next week.
