With football season upon us and basketball right around the corner, just wanted to let everyone know I just signed up for SlingTV. You can get every ESPN channel and the SEC network for $25/month with their basic package and sports add on. Add an antenna for networks and that is about as cheap as you can do I would guess.

I just wanted to let you know that I signed up for it when it debuted last fall and it sucked dick.

I have 100MB tier Internet and it would hang from almost every commercial break.

I may try it again and see if they've improved their infrastructure. I want to upgrade my AppleTV anyway (and they offer it for a discount).

I'm a new cord cutter as well and let me tell you its super easy! First get a PC motherboard with the NVIDIA 345 grafix card that will need to upgrade the firing rate to 560 MG of RAM that will allow you to run ROKU through your firestick in order to maximize the potential of KODI which will need to be downloaded through the firmware server in order to optimize. Its a snap! Afterwards I like to use a biaxial co-cable split, this allow me to watch it on more than one tv, simply purchase and upgrade a new modem with biaxial splitting capabilities and run a S-Video drive. Now you might have to have a signal uprgrading router in order to see it on more than one floor if you have a multiple story house, but once you optimize and install the modware to make your modem recognize both your streaming source as well as output signal you can then set that up to your cloud system. What your now optimized cloud system (assuming you are going through either a proprietary port cloud and not a shared cloud of course!) will allow you to do is save shows as if you have a DVR, just like that!

But you need to make sure you don't have the system running through the co-axial cable split at the same time, make sure you have the motherboard optimized for splitting manually - not automatically! After you have it set to your manual settings you can get HULU and Netflix for recorded shows, but then the streaming services for sports can be easily set up on the Reddit subforum links or through your digitized KODI.

Its amazing and I can't believe those idiots still use cable! For instance I used to have DISH satellite with all movie channels and DVR and all that jazz on 3 tvs as well as ATT internet for 90 bucks a month, but now with my new setup I can easily access over 18 channels for only 70 bucks a month and the easy maintenance I described above! My wife especially finds it easy to navigate as well as my 3 year old!

Don't get Sling, get a Fire TV and sign up for PSVue.

I had Sling last year and it was fine for football and basketball but I apparently had a lot less problems than other people who signed up for it. Vue on the Fire TV is like having regular cable though, quality is 1080, I've yet to have buffering issues, you can DVR, and you can watch on up to 5 TV's.

Cut the cord about 6 weeks ago and don't miss it at all. I will start Sling later this month and keep it only for college football season. Tried Hulu+ about a week ago and thought it sucked. But, nothing new on TV during the summer so I may give it one more try in the fall. Where I'm located, I'd have to have an outdoor antenna several feet above the roofline of my house and I don't want to do that. Wish I could - I'd never turn on cable again. Most months (w/out Sling), I'll be saving >$100/mo. All told, I'll save over a grand a year and not miss anything I care to see on TV. I watch very little network TV, basically only college football and a little NFL with the exception of very small bits of March Madness (basically parts of the FF only) and a couple of the majors in golf. So, I'm probably not a good test case but it's working great for me.

My Dish Bill for the same thing was $90. $25 is super cheap and we already have a Fire TV which the app for Sling can be downloaded onto. But I get that it's really fun to make fun of people saving money.

If you already have a Fire TV sign up for a free trial of PS Vue, seriously, it's like night and day how much better it is for $5 more.

I agree, and have had several issues. They did just do an interface overhaul, which has helped with the buffering issues, but their platform is still janky.

SlingTV only allows 1 device at a time. If you get the service that allows THREE!!!!11111!, then ESPN and SEC Network are unavailable. [eyeroll]

I asked TWC how much only their internet service was...$112. That was for 50Mb/s service, before they upgraded all the speeds for free*

*My promotional period expired in June. Bill went up $37/month.

I looked into it but I live in a crappy area for an antenna. I'm stuck but I have a great package with Dish in which I only pay 50% more than a new customer and have a dvr made by Western Electric in 1953.

560 MG of RAM :joy:

Its a funny post. None of it makes any sense.

I literally just plugged my roku into my tv and that was it. I save $100+/month. Meh.

Sounds like a major pain in the *** to save a few bucks each month. We've got 6 TVs-does your option work for more than a few tvs?

Probably not for you. Its like anything, you have to tailor the situation to what fits your needs.

If you watch 6 tvs 24/7, cable is the right answer. We dont watch a lot of tv, and dont consider them that important. We have one in the basement and one in living room. Wont let the kids have them, nor do we have one in our bedroom. For us, having cable/internet with premium was around $160 ish a month. Not really worth it imo. But for you, that might be a steal.

I pay $35 for internet, $20 for sling, $15 for HBO. The PBS apps are great (free) and other free apps. So I cut my bill almost $100. For me, it was worth it.

With all things, its the amount of effort you want to put into it. If you want to save $100/month, then it might take a little bit of a learning curve.

Playstation Vue, is like sling, but I think you can log in multiple places.

I need 1 TV. I watch the TV in the living room and I am the only one who watches sports so we don't need multiple hookups. We have a 60" in the basement that my son and I use for XBox only. Everything else we watch is Netflix or Prime based.

I haven't been able to really dig into it yet, but I have an Amazon FireTV box with Kodi on it. One of the Kodi "add ons" is Sports Devil, which will give you quite a bit of live sports channels. I know ESPN channels are available, I believe the Fox Sport and SEC network is there too.

Vue allows 5 devices to stream at the same time. Also has many more channels/options than sling (including locals in some areas) and they will have the NFL red zone channel this season.

Picked up Vue with a Roku last month.
You can run 5 devices from the same IP address.
I liked it's line up more than Sling. Sling has Univision, Galavision and El Rey in the base package while Vue they are a separate Spanish package.

I'll pick up package with SEC network and other sports channels when football and basketball starts up.

Dish still charged me $10 to ship back there equipment. :gun:

I found this as well, but if you subscribe to sling but use the watch espn app from an xbox or computer you usually don't get the hangups, lag, glitches, etc.

I'm going to try again with their new AppleTV deal shortly - I need one anyway.

Holy ****, 6 TVs? How many people need to have their asses glued to a separate couch in separate rooms at one time?
WHen my brother and I lived with my parents, we had 5 TVs - my bedroom, brother's bedroom, living room (where my mom watches TV once in a while), kitchen/dining room, basement (my dad's man cave thought he shares one half of it with cats lol).

The four of us rarely want to watch the same thing, especially me as I am the only sports guy in the house. We'd use the kitchen TV primarily to watch the news at dinner. My parents still use that same kitchen TV and they got it before I was born. I turn 32 years old in 10 days.

^This...we've been using the base package PS Vue package since march...it's great IMO. Plan on upgrading our package when football season starts...interested to see if there will be any basketball games we won't be able to get...
I've converted several co-workers to PS Vue as well...

As someone mentioned, if you subscribe to Playstation Vue or Sling TV use the WatchESPN app. The playback is better, the interface is better, you can watch on multiple devices and it unless they recently changed it, you could watch the additional ESPN Channels/SEC Network without having to pay the extra $5 a month.

Personally I will sign up for these services for about 6 months a year to cover College Football and Basketball. Add in the extra preview month they always throw in and I end up usually spending around $80 a year to watch all the College sports that I am interested in. That was less than what I was spending on one month of Cable. The rest of the time I normally just watch stuff on Netflix. I also have a deal with Time Warner right now that gets me the networks, HBO, Showtime and High Speed Internet for $50 a month. All those options are enough to keep me entertained.

I just switched from Sling to Vue.

Vue is ahead, by a lot. The streaming quality in night and day. For some reason, sling would throttle. Vue doesnt. More channels, better quality, and can record. $10 more, but we had just started getting the $5 kids channels, so only $4 more.

I asked TWC how much only their internet service was...$112. That was for 50Mb/s service, before they upgraded all the speeds for free*

Internet only 50mb is 59.99. I called the first time and they told me 60. Then I called back a week later to remove TV service and the girl tried to tell me it would be 80. Then I argued and she said 70. Finally she's like "whatever, ok i removed your tv" and then hung up on me. Once I got my bill it was 59.99.

Moral of the story, they say anything, even lie to get you to keep tv.

I have a friend that use to work for Charter and he says 50 mg is suppose to go to $40 once the billing department gets converted from time warner, but I'm not sure how accurate that is.

Also, they don't shut off your cable TV any more either. You keep all basic and mid tier channels (through coaxial cable, no box) even without a tv subscription
