Could this happen?

Could we hire Floridas AD and Todd Golden join him? I think I read somewhere that Golden would leave Florida for the NBA or a blue blood. I wonder if there might have been a bit of jealousy how we got Aberdeen from him due to money. Maybe Golden would want to go to a school that funds NIL the way we do.

Still rooting for this team and hope Pope can turn it around in the SECT and NCAAT, but just thought it would be an interesting turn of events.

I'd say chances are very good that this very thing happens.

I don't understand why people keep saying this. Is 2 years here with tons of resources plus the history of his entire coaching career not enough to make a pretty educated judgement on him?
Of course it is. That’s why you don’t see me in every thread telling everyone they are wrong for doubting Pope. Yet the same courtesy isn’t extended to me.

additionally, Golden won’t really have any lingering loyalties to his players. His whole front court and Lee will be gone next year. The only thing that hurts Floridas AD is that I think he hired Billy Napier. Could hurt his chances for that mistake in football.

If he hires Golden for basketball, he can hire Sun Belt Billy again for football for all I care. I don’t want to die before passing UCLA

I’m with you on that. But I don’t think Eli and a lot of football fans would agree. You remember the war that occurred when cal and stoops went at it for saying we are a basketball school.

Yeah but it’s what I believe. I don’t say it to upset anyone but it’s how I really see things. Haven’t missed a UKF game since 2002, but I accept mediocrity in football…I have no delusions of grandeur. There’s a brand and tradition to protect in basketball. We are absolutely a basketball school to me.

100% Just get me 6 wins and a bowl game for football and I will be content.

News flash. Things have not worked out with Pope. The Pope era at UK is over.

Just hasn’t been time stamped yet.
My goodness, man… So you disagree that he’s being brought back for year 3? Sorry, it’s rhetorical for a reason…if he’s being brought back for a year three, it’s because people who make the decisions want to find out something…if they already knew, the guy would be gone already.

We fund NIL the way we do and Golden and UF are still kicking our asses. This makes no sense.

Things haven't worked out with Pope despite his huge budget. Just curious: Let's hypothetically say that we could hire Golden for next season. What is the downside?
I’d sign up for it if was up to me, but it isn’t. I don’t see the point of hypotheticals like this when Pope gets a third year no matter what. If I got to choose, gun to my head, and I can swap Pope for Golden right at this second, I would. That isn’t how this works though.

I’m not sure he will get a 3rd year.

Pope era in Kentucky was over the day he was hired. Again, objectively, there isn’t a chance barring something insane happening that Pope can turn a donut into a steak. Look at his history, judge him on his work. He cannot live up to what we do here. How many years do you need? We’ve got 12 right now. Not 2, 12. Just received his first tournament win, 63% winning percentage, more blowouts than the men before him combined. It took Cal 10 years to suffer the amount of blowouts he will have next season. He’s not going to be able to recruit here, he never has. 12 years.

The day he was hired UK fans should have gone pitchfork. There isn’t anything to wait on, we’ve got what we need right now. So it’s wise for everyone with a voice to say enough and make a change. It doesn’t matter what he does next year, he can’t follow it up with consistency anyway. And he should be let go this season anyway, this is Kentucky not EKU, I think Mitch has really pulled some master class level gaslighting on this fanbase.

Kentucky fans are cucks, let’s not beat around the bush. We let this happen. Boosters also deserve blame, between their internal politics BS that cut Cal off from NIL that probably sabotaged the last several years of his tenure to throwing money at Pope for nostalgia reasons and not questioning why Mitch Barnhart went from Scott Drew to Pope while ignoring dozens of qualified coaches for the one guy with no tournament success or even a single conference championship.

If boosters do not put their foot down and we end up with one of Mitch’s lackeys instead of a qualified candidate for AD, some of us are going to have to accept that Kentucky basketball is dead for the near future. It’s done. And we’re all to blame.

If things don’t work with Pope, I’d be all for it. Hopefully, not needed. 👍
I feel your pain with Pope brother, I'm still pulling for him also because I bleed blue, however, the injuries played a part last year & more so this year, imo though, I think he's in over his head. If he finishes strong this year, then hires a GM & the recruiting takes off, then & only then will I gain back my "Hope In Pope" mindset. I'd love to beat Florida, do good in the SEC tournament or win it, then go deep into the NCAA, I might as well wish in one hand & **** in the other & see which one fills up first with that though lol 🤣🤣

We are.

And sadly, my response besides not supporting the program $ wise and complaining here, will be increasing apathy toward college hoops.

We are on the verge of losing a lot of fans. My 9 yr old son cares a lot more about UK baseball than basketball. Can’t blame him in the least. But would have been unimaginable when I was a kid.

We have an up & coming coach that's a lifelong UK fan & hopefully we won't be hiring a new football coach for the next 30 years. I have season football tickets & I'm pumped about Will Stein.

I want us to be good in both as do you, I'm ready for the Will Stein era.

I could see the scenario of losing the next 3 games that = a 4 game losing streak & the boosters forcing a change. Of course I want to win every game, however, lose to A&M, Florida, lose on Wednesday in the SECT & then the 1st round in the NCAA.........yeah, that happens & the boosters are fighting mad.
