Not trolling, just making the observation that at the end of his third full year, in the most important game of his coaching career, he had every single bc recruit on the team, on the floor when it mattered most.
Ncaa tourney game? Yes. Looks like Carmody is up to his old habits again.
Yes. One of his strengths is coaching teams in conferences tournaments. Who can forget all those stunning upsets when he coached at NU. Remember the time when we were the 8 seed and we beat the 7 seed. That was unbelievable. Or how about the time when we ... oh, never mind. That was probably the only time we ever beat a higher seeded team in his 13 years.
Carmody didn't get it done in 13 years. Let it go. I thought he was generally a good coach and an indifferent recruiter who had bad luck with injuries. That is not a formula for success in a major conference. When he had good players, his teams did pretty well. When he had bad or inexperienced players (that he recruited), his teams went 3 and 31 in the conference in his
7th and 8th years at NU. I felt bad when he got fired but there is no doubt in my mind that Collins is a better fit at Northwestern. None.
Collins played a fifth year senior, a true senior, Lumpkin who has been in the program for 4 years, and Taphorn because he kind of had to in this game. A lot of coaches like to go with that kind of experience, particularly versus playing true freshmen and a sophomore that is a role player. Demps and Olah were good college players and we will miss them both next year. The issue that Carmody had was recruiting a full roster of B1G caliber players. We never had any depth. And I'm pretty sure that Carmody played Jitim Young, Winston Blake and Aaron Jenning at the end of games in his third year, when the team went 12 and 17.
Carmody is where he belongs. Go celebrate with the other Holy Cross supporters.
