Court upholds Atlanta suburb's ban on sex toys

The federal appeals court in Atlanta has upheld Sandy Springs’ prohibition against adult entertainment establishments that want to sell sexual devices.

The city enacted the ordinance, which criminalizes the distribution of “obscene” sex toys, in 2009. A number of businesses then filed suit, seeking to strike down the ban on grounds it was unconstitutional.

In the litigation, the plaintiffs contended they have a fundamental right to engage in acts of private, consensual sexual intimacy.

But on Tuesday, in a unanimous decision, the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said it was bound by a ruling it issued in 2004 that rejected a similar challenge against an Alabama statute that prohibited the sale of sexual devices.

For what it's worth, this is the most affluent Atlanta suburb. It is high density. If you go from affluent Buckhead, it is hard to distinguish between the two.

Guns, OK. Sex toys, no way!

I posted this because I think it is silly.

But seriously, why would anyone object to sex toys? If you don't like them, don't use them.

Some religious people, many of whom make up a large portion of the southern US, think anything sexual that isn't missionary position for the sole purpose of making a baby is a sin. Sex isn't supposed to be enjoyable. It's supposed to be like work, apparently.

This is a blue law just like the dry county garbage here. It's ********. Adults should be able to buy all the dildos and liquor we want in spite of what someone's favorite novel says.

Only a matter of time before they take the sex toys away from the homes too. Cannot wait for the women that will be saying they can have their sex toys when they pry them from their cold, dead snatch.

I take it you're against the people's will no matter what. Things they don't want should be forced on them and things they want should taken away. I'm sure there is a fancy title for folks that think like that.

Whoa whoa there JohnBlue. I'm sure we can get some kind of compromise here with Mtmaker..
How about a little meeting in the middle. Like they use to do in the good ol' days.

You can attend church twice a week for your whole life in the south and never hear a word about Song of Songs. People actually prefer to interpret it incorrectly instead of hear that sex is fun, or worse, a component of a functional marriage.

Well.....when you reach a certain age, it does become like work sometimes, and certainly falls behind a good bowel movement, a good meal, a good sporting event or a good nap in terms of importance. That said, those toy stores can really help take the work out of it, and I get Mrs. Hoss something from there every year. Nothing says Merry Christmas like a new G-spot vibe or Rabbit....
