My kids were fortunate to have good teachers thru the past year disaster of public education but I definitely don’t agree with the $5,000 handouts. I look at this as basically hush money for teachers remaining quiet this past year as unions and school boards forced kids to suffer at home. And it just furthers this type of union/school board control model into the future. Parents must speak out, vote, and take control of school boards and other school committees wherever possible. Otherwise there is no end in sight to all the nonsense.

My wife’s a teacher (FCPS) and even she’s laughing at the absurdity of this after I sent it to her. My assumption is the district is using some creative accounting to funnel their COVID stimulus to do this

Gonna be great to see all the JCPS teachers posting about their Disney trips tho

Wouldn’t shock me at all if Fayette County follows with something similar. The two seem to be similar in their amazing decision making.

If this was only for custodial staff or bus drivers that were furloughed or otherwise paid less over the last year, then I'm cool with it. Considering it includes teachers who were still receiving their full salary while also saving on childcare and other things, then no. This is coming from a guy with a family full of teachers.

Regardless, this is just JCPS spending its surplus budget from the last fiscal year so they don't have a reduced budget next year. They don't really care that much about their staff.

Lol..... unbelievable. Worst run organization in the history of mankind.
It really is. Never really seen anything like it. When you’re accountable to no one….well, on top of that everyone is actually kinda just afraid of them….you can do what you want I guess.

Could’ve shown some goodwill by sending some of that money or the millions saved on diesel fuel back to the community, the pensions, or…mind blown….the children but nah they had “obstacles” per the article.

1. Put up own obstacles
2. ***** about obstacles
3. ?
4. Profit by paying self for obstacles

I digress…

Hopefully this is what gets Chris Kolb and the rest of that ilk cast aside so adults can be back in charge of the largest school system in the Commonwealth.

What an embarrassment of misbegotten power and arrogance.

Not sure if it’s the whole story, but it looks like you didn’t even have to be employed by JCPS last year to get the money. Looks like all the requirements are just being employed this coming year.

From what I understand the teachers had not got their pay raises for the last 2 years so this kinda takes the place of that.

What a slap in the face to the Health Care workers.
what about all of the other workers that never missed a days work during this?
I don't know about anyone else, but I didn't even get a raise during this mess, let alone a $5,000 gift.
Now in addition to all of the extra unemployment wages handed out, they want to pay people $1,500 to go back to work. Unbelievable, maybe those of us working ought to just quit and get these hand outs

If that’s true, then it kind of makes sense. They need to let people know that though. It’s just bad optics to get a bunch of federal money like ESSER funds and then turn around and give out $5K like it’s nothing.

Yep, kind of funny how some groups may say the extra money already being paid to people not working isn’t why people aren’t working yet those in that same group say hey we will pay people to go back to work because the $1,500 will motivate people to get a job 🤔🤦🏻‍♂️.

They have a pay schedule for every year of experience completed. You get a raise every year. If there is a publicly announced raise, this entire table moves up.

This is JeffersonCPS:

If you don't have a teacher in your family, Rank III = Bachelors, Rank II = Masters, Rank I = Masters plus 30

It might seem like semantics, but those are step ups, not raises. As you can see, some of the amounts don’t even change the higher you get up in experience. Raises equate to cost of living increases.

Never missed a day of work myself. Didn't get a pay raise through any of this? The appreciation I received from the government? Money giving to people on who refused to work. Wow gee thanks. Next time just add the middle finger to complete this for all the people that busted *** and worked during this pandemic. Biden and Andy suck.

And that's where you lose anybody that's paying attention.

When normal people say they haven't received a raise in x amount of years, people think that they are making the same cheddar that they were making x years ago.

You average a 2% step up for 25 years plus raises. The middle years are more than 2 and the top out years are less.

Few have that deal.

Government just printing money like there’s no tomorrow. Unbelievable. Now offering incentives for folks who’ve been on unemployment to go back to work. So a paycheck isn’t enough anymore??!!

I thought Rank 1 teachers were ones who have met Rank II requirements and have earned National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) certification. It requires additional education above a Masters degree.

I got this info directly from a teacher friend of mine. She was grateful though because she was stressed about how to pay day care costs for her 2 kids.

Hey I’m also stressed about paying for daycare for 2 kids and I went above and beyond this past year holding down a full time job while teaching my 2 kids 5 days a week. Think I can get some of that school money?

After working for 7 years with a bachelors in education, meaning she could still be in her 20s, she would be making more than the average household income in Kentucky - with amazing benefits, a pension, and 3 months a year off. So hopefully she could make it work with the extra 5k this year.

I wonder what % of Kentuckians aren’t stressed about paying for child care?

With all the unemployment issues, the state tried to slip in helping the UAW. So it got leaked today that the state is sending staff from the unemployment office to the UAW in Louisville to help union members with their unemployment. Not open to the public. Most definitely illegal among other things.
The Dems giving zero focks, just flat paying anybody that helped them get elected.
