Maybe the weight class and competition from Crutch can help spur Rogers improvement. He has a high level of talent. I also hope it means that Boyd has made strides and maybe forced Rogers to move down.

john smith said collica will not be at 41 this year because he has gotten too big over the summer as well as added some height. they are thinking about moving him up to 57 to challenge for that spot.

I really think that Jordan Rogers was undersized at 184. I believe the battle with Crutchmer at 174 will strengthen both wrestlers. Nolan Boyd has all of the intangibles to be successful at 184 but made too many careless mistakes last year and lost some matches because of it. He has strength, grit and good skills and if he can cut down mistakes from what I believe to be over-aggressiveness he will be much better. He does not lack confidence and if he can temper that confidence with maturity he will excel at this weight.

There was a lack of information about our first three weights but I feel much better now that Klimara is back in the saddle. He has a very tough weight class but he improved greatly all last year and his near miss with Clark on a questionable call shows he can compete with the best. Dean Heil looks big and strong and skilled at 133. Anthony Collica has definitely gotten bigger and stronger during the off season and was fearful he had gotten too big for 141. We were assured he is not too big for this weight and certified at 141. He should be much stronger this year.

KC Scott is adamant that I over played the problems Marsteller is having separating himself from the rest of the group at 157. He may be right and also that is one practice we watched. He has wagered that Marsteller will easily win at the OCU open and put a glass of glass of his favorite brew (Bud Lite) on the line. I would never bet against an OSU wrestler so he will have to get his libation elsewhere.

I can not wait until November 2nd to watch my Cowboys. I will make one bet and that is we will finish much higher than 10th this year and all is possible. Minnesota appears to be the major stumbling block along with Ohio State and Iowa and we wrestle Minnesota on the 29th of November in Minneapolis. At the end of that match we will know a lot more on how our young guns will fare.

thanks mike i was just about to post the youtube link and you posted it. i have trouble uploading links anyways so this helps a lot.... if collica can't make the weight and cant win the 57 spot then i assume a redshirt might be in the picture for him... who would be our next best 41 punder would be the question

Davey Dolan and Joe Schumacher, both are cutting some weight to get to 141. Another wrestler that could play into this weight could be Michael Magaldo, incoming freshman which is big for 133 and already showing some talent and toughness in the room, my sleeper pick coming out of his redshirt would be him.

Obviously, I did not see the John Smith interview before posting but I do know that Collica certified at 141. John may be accepting the inevitable but I do not think they have given up the idea of Collica at 141 completely. Interesting if Collica wrestles 157 as as Mike indicated there are numerous candidates to fill the 141 slot. I would think Magaldo is a long shot to be at 141 but Davey Dolan and Joe Schumacher are definite possibilities.

It seems our most complete and competitive lineup would have Collica going 141 this year but if it can't happen it can't happen. I still think we have a shot to be right in the mix when it counts especially with Eddie coming back. I also think we will see much better results at 184 and 197 this year as compared to last year. One of the guys will take 174 and should appoint themselves well and I won't put anything past CM if 157 is a healthy pull.

Surprised by the Rogers move. He supposedly really hit the weights this off season. We are really going to have a logjam at 57-74 the next few years. Hopefully Boyd has jumped levels, and that necessitated the move. Personally, if collica can't make 41, I'd like to see him redshirt and get ready for 49 next year.

Eddie is back, but I'm guessing it will take some time for him to round into shape.

Our first few matches could really be interesting.

Unless Collica has grown a lot, it would seem that he would be a very small 157. If he can make the pull and retain his strength and stamina, I would much rather see him be a big 141. Otherwise, a redshirt would seem to be in order. Of course, if Chance cannot maintain 157, then Anthony might be our best option there.

I agree, Obe. Jordan Rogers appeared to be a small 184. He should be better at 174, especially if he picked up some grit and determination from our last 174 guy.

Let's be honest...If Collica isn't at 141 and Boyd is the guy at 184, that would be two gaping holes in our lineup. Hopefully somebody steps up and surprises. I can't believe older Rogers can't beat Boyd. Boyd looked completely outclassed with a lot of dumb moves/decisions the times I've him wrestle. Hopefully at least one of them greatly improves.

I have to admit I don't feel good about Boyd starting and Rogers not being able to beat Boyd concerns me. I hope Boyd is a lot better then last year. It will be interesting who wins at 74. My opinion would be Crutchmer but I do remember Rogers teching Crutchmer in a freestyle match 3 or 4 years ago. I also don't like our options at 41 without Collica. It is hard to see Collica doing well at 57.

I think coach Smith saying Collica was going to 157 is more of a motivational ploy to Chance in saying the spot won't be handed to you. If Chance can safely make 157 (which sure seems to be the case) there is no question who will represent 157 for us and I would also say if he stays healthy will go as far as wants this year.

I would guess Collica is in for a RS year.

quick note..... i looked back at the interview and coach smith stated that at 197lbs we didn't recruit the weight; but didn't we recruit preston wiegle from kansas as a 97 pounder? i'm not sure if smith just forgot about preston or that was an indication of him going at 184 (i'm pretty high on this kid). i remember this summer when the freshman first reported i was in the weight room and preston weighed in right at 195lbs. so i guess he maybe a 84 pounder for the first couple of years. regarding collica, i hope he can make the weight and i believe he maybe able to. i remember collica weighing in at 170 this summer. when j.o cut to 133 he would blow up between 165- 167 during the summer and cut to 33 so i figure if j.o could cut to 33 collica could make the cut as well to 41. but i do understand that different people can cut a certain amount and handle it better than others. it would definitely be a tuff cut but if john thinks it wouldn't be good for collica mentally and physically then i would say put him on a red shirt.
