125- Dean Peterson
133-Drake Ayala
141- Nasir Bailey
149- Ryder Block/ Kale Voinvich, Miguel Estrada
157- Jordan Williams/ Victor Voinvich
165- Michael Caliendo
174- Pat Kennedy/ Gabe Arnold
184- Angelo Ferrari
197- Massoma Endene
HWT- Ben Kueter

125- Rutgers transfer, been in the blood round twice at nationals. Being in Iowa room I think gets him over hump and he all Americans. Has some very quality wins but also some head scratching losses, if he can put it all together come March, should have some good results. Also expect true freshmen Leo deluca to get some matches here as well.

133- drakes last ride, one of the leaders in the room, I have seen him ranked anywhere from 4th to 2nd in preseason polls. Expect big things out of him this year.

141- Bailey is a transfer from Little Rock, round of 16 last year at 133, did also take 4th as a true freshmen. Looked big at 133 so I think the move up helps him. Also being in the Iowa room should help him jump levels as well.

149- could be block, voinivich, or Estrada. Block obviously didn’t have the year he wanted last year, which in my opinion he was pulling to much weight going down to 141. Be interesting to see him go at a weight that is more suited for him. Estrada hung in some matches and won a couple up at 57 last year when teemer was out, he will certainly be in the mix for the spot when he’s back healthy.

157- Williams another transfer from Little Rock. One of the more intriguing guys in our lineup at least to me. Round of 12 last year at 149, lost an overtime quarterfinals match to Caleb Henson. Has had gas tank issues in past so being up a weight could certainly help that. Excited to see what he cam
Do this year up a weight. Lot of different attacks from his feet and he can scramble so all good things there.

165- Caliendo last ride, training hard this offseason, got a monster at the top of his weight, excited to see those matches with messenbrink and how much he has closed the gap.

174- pats last ride, really put it together last year, hope he can go even deeper into tourney this year. Gabe is a very solid second option here and should provide good depth/competition to Pat.

184- Ferrari time, lot of young talent at this weight, like our guy a lot and I expect big things out of him this season.

197- Endeme, first year at d1 level, three time champ at wartburg. Not sure what to expect here but we shall see. Also expect ludington to get some matches.

HWT- kueter, wrestled all of last year with torn hip labrum. Also weighing 240-245 range now so that should help him this year at a somewhat wide open heavyweight class. Dark horse finalist candidate in my opinion.

all in all very excited for the season to start and feel we have a good team that can score some better points in March, hope this helps.

Plus 5 matches thru the year from 125 DeLuce and 197 Ludington. Arnold vs Kennedy at 174 will be very interesting. Either could kick some as for the Hawks this year.

I have read a few comments here and there about fans not excited for this years team, I could not disagree more. Yes I wear Hawk colored glasses, but our team is extremely solid from 125-285.

125- Im saying Dean is an AA, possibly as high as a finalist. He can go toe to toe with anyone in the top 10 when he is wrestling at his best and I have a very good feeling about on him being a Hawk and the impact it will have.
133- Ayala can beat anyone at this weight. This weight has the most depth of any and I cannot wait to see where he has improved to get him on top of the podium.
141- Bailey is so good and he had room to grow both physically and technically, Montel Marion 2.0. Bailey is top 7
149- We need one of our guys to take that leap forward, which guy will EARN that chance to shine.
157- Williams will be thrive, yet another guy at his best can go with anyone at the weight. Where will he be mentally and physically, I like what I am Hearing so far.
165- Can Caliendo figure out the code, Im so pumped to see him get after it.
174- This weight is Ripe for the taken and we have two guys that can be top 5 IMO. I give Kennedy the edge and I think we see him taking names.
184- Deep with young talent, Angelo is OUR Guy and he is number 1 at the weight this year.
197- Im waiting patiently to see Endeme go as a Hawk, hope he makes the best of this opportunity. Im pumped to see Lundington go also
285- Big Ben has a chance to take the title this year, leveled up and scoring with a bit more weight and he is there. This weight will be won by the guy with the most grit this year.

This weight is likely a battle for 2nd place...but we've seen bigger upsets.

However, I don't think PK finishes the season ranked as high as he is now.

Okay yeah Levi is a clear favorite but he needs to get there. 2-8 is up for grabs, Ruiz is very good, Norman is definitely someone to watch and lots of other talent at the weight. Kennedy showed last year he can with all of these guys and he very well could elevate to yet another level with the confidence from last season.

A guy to keep an eye on is Minto. He was very solid last year and will be a challenger to wrestle on Saturday night.

Who is 3rd through 5th currently in the rankings? Even if PK beats everyone he wrestles, taking multiple losses to Levi by NCAAs will surely bump PK below the 2 seed unfortunately.

I disagree. Mes might be unbeatable at 65 but I don’t think Levi wins it at 74. I think it’s PK or one of the other brawlers. Levi is beatable IMO.
I don't know who you have been watching, but Levi is an absolute nightmare matchup for PK. He has blitzkrieged him EVERY time (11-3, 10-3 and 10-3). Haines has 2 total losses(48-2) the past 2 seasons and they were super close matches to O'toole and Hamiti. His career finishes are 2nd, 1st and 3rd. He is probably the 2nd biggest lock on their entire team.

With that said, I would love to see PK finish ahead of him, but ANYONE at 174 beating Haines would be a HUGE upset...on top of that, I just went and looked at 174 to see if I missed someone. I most certainly didn't. 174 is SUPER THIN after Haines, which is why PK is ranked 2nd. In a Confidence Pool, he and Mesenbrink would be 1A and 1B, with the next tier being WAY below.

Good research! I still think he’s beatable and doesn’t win it all. Hamit went 6th, 6th, bloodround, NCAA champ with narrow victories over PK along the way. Who saw him winning it all? Again, I don’t think Levi wins it. Not saying PK is equal to Hamiti but I do think Levi will lose.

PK was still 0-3 against Hamiti and I don't remember him ever having the lead in those matches even if the scores were relatively close. Still, Hamiti was a different guy last year, being both healthy, and at the proper weight. Even then, I don't think he wins if O'Toole was healthy anyway...but he absolutely wrestled his very best for a full season to finish off his career in style..

Also Hamiti was wrestling under David Taylor in the Okie State room. PK is not in a similar situation

I could see Brands giving Gabe some matches to rest PK some and not be a total waste of a season for Gabe. Would like to see him against PSU this year, but don’t know if he’ll take PK’s last home meet with PSU away from him. Gabe has the strength and athleticism to pull off an upset, but could also get smoked worse than PK. It would be a good experience for him to prepare for the best next year, like when he put Angelo up against Star.

Thank God for that. PK might never of progressed the way he did last year in the Hawkeye room.
Great point. Let’s be honest here. Hamiti didn’t all of a sudden transform his wrestling. He was the same wrestler, he just actually made it to NCAA’s healthy and hydrated. I am fine giving DT credit for that since it is definitely a thing that has dogged Iowa for a long time, but let’s PLEASE stop acting like he transcended under DT. That simply isn’t true…

Totally agree. Expect GA to get some matches and PK to stay healthy and rested.
