Its NOT an excuse to state BG should have never ever been in that game during the critical last play . Thats all on Coach and his sub patterns are TERRIBLE . MM had not fouled out. , While I'm complaining I'll add I wish OO played with the same physicality on D as he does on O . Too often he just retreats and doesnt look to stand his ground -- ManitouDan

It means what we all already knew, that some of them need very minimal minutes. A smart coach should use their bench according to that bench's quality. If your bench players aren't good enough to play, just don't play them. It's not Little League so there shouldn't be participation trophies.

Unfortunately players need a breather, but good teams don’t have Noah and Garrison caliber players as the first guys off the bench. Their minutes must be kept to an absolute minimum

^This. Maybe their minutes would be more productive if they were playing with better players and NOT playing with BG.
I felt like a horrible fan last night. When BG got his 3rd foul in the first half, I was so happy. 1) he would have to sit. 2) Less for Mark to have to think about when subbing.

I get why he's doing it, but he doesn't seem to grasp that it's not even going to matter. He's coddling guys more than Calipari did. Lol

I have 2 thoughts on this.
1) it matters who is on the court with you. Big difference if you insert 1 bench guy at a time (2 at most) with the starters, vs bringing in 3 or 4 bench guys all at once.
2) for this particular UK team, is it better to bring in just 1-2 bench guys at a time, or 3-4 at a time so the starters can play more minutes all 5 together?
3) They are coming off the bench, and (except MoD vs Jelavic) playing fewer minutes than the starters FOR A REASON.

Pope actually did this briefly last night.

And how many minutes would the (-) players be getting if Lowe, JQ and Williams were healthy?
The more I see this excuse the more I realize JQ was an absolutely brilliant move by Pope for job security purposes. He had every base covered with that signing - either a miracle happens and he’s somehow his former five star self at some point this season after recovery or he misses most, if not all, of the season and a certain subset of fans use him as a built-in excuse for not having a full roster, even though he never should’ve been included in this year’s roster to being with.

This...I am pretty sure Lowe, JQ and Kam wouldn't have negative numbers
2 of the 3...not so sure about JQ...maybe if fully healthy. Lowe(starting PG) was a big hit with no true back up. Kam was a big hit because he was beginning to play really well on offense and defense, a lock down defender and 3 point shooter with slashing capabilities...he will be a good one.

People try to say stop using excuses but the reality is BG, Noah and JJ would never see the floor without the injuries. Sometimes there are reasons, not excuses.
It is excuses. Good/Great coaches have their lineups figured out by the end of February. This is not the first team to have injuries. It is part of sports. It has happened to teams for years.
Plus, I am not sure JQ, JL, or KW would not have (-) minutes either.

The dude sucks. He's right up there with Askew and a couple of others that just aren't good basketball players. He has no motor and just...I dunno what the hell his problem is. I try to never talk bad about a player outside of a game and ALWAYS try to give even our less able guys props when they do good things. But BG is just not a good player.

Here's a wild plus / minus stat:

The coldest temperature ever directly recorded on Earth's surface is -128.6 °F. This occurred on 7/21/83 at Vostok Station in Antarctica during the Antarctic winter.

Curious if Pope’s substitution patterns and the fact he mass subs negatively impacts the bench players too much? Meaning if a bench player wasn’t playing mostly with other reserves, and Pope subbed like most coaches, would these numbers be less negative for the subs? I think so.

Well he has to give the starters a breather for 4 or 5 minutes a game. The trick is not to have more than 1 of those guys on the floor at the same time.

Pope has been at UK 3 years in April and has recruited only two high school players with no commitments or predictions for UK going forward. And those two high school players are from Lexington with strong ties to the program. What is going on?

At the same time Brooks was brought in and has added four McDonald's All Americans in the same time period . And the status of the men's program far exceeds that of the women's program!
