The SEC will still schedule these cupcake games, just like every other conference. Who cares if these games are played early or late if they're still being played?
Apparently Mr. Sankey.
"That's the end of cupcake weekend in late November," Sankey said as part of his comments wrapping up the first full day of SEC spring meetings. "We never got that one sponsored."

The days of a team made up of students of one college playing a football game against students of another college are long gone. Players are getting paid a lot to play football. They should have to play tough games every week of the season. Fans shouldn't be paying high ticket prices and be forced to make large donations to ever see non competitive games. P4 teams should only be allowed to play other P4 teams.

MLB teams never get to play a AAA team, NFL teams never get to play a college team and NBA teams never get to play a G league team. The idea of any of those things happening is ludicrous. Why should teams in the top level of college football ever get to play a team from a lower level?

Well, we just go from 3 cupcakes to 2, since we're adding a 9th conference game.

Some teams still get 3, if their rivalry game is in conference.

I read the article, my question was a response to our illustrious SEC leader.

The schedule makeup isn't changing, this announcement means nothing.

From 1933ish to 1975, the NFL champion would play a team made up of college all-stars to begin the following season.

Not exactly. USC often used that fourth game to play a team like UnCarolina in Charlotte (in odd-numbered years when we host Clemron).

Upcoming home-and-home series over the next several seasons against Miami, VPI, UnCarolina, and NCSU have been cancelled due to the 9th conference game both the ACC and SEC are adding. Our loss.

And paydays for the smaller schools - which has always been something to justify it.
''We are giving the smaller state schools some source of revenue to benefit their program''
I have never liked that justification. If a school can't afford to field a football team without being the sacrificial lamb for a bigger program's homecoming or opening game, they should drop football.

It's a nice gesture on the part of FBS schools. It also opens up options for those to attend a game which would otherwise sell out.

But I agree, it feels like Irmo hosting Calhoun County High. Not a great feeling. I'd like to find other ways to support FCS, D-II, etc. football programs in SC.

A check to SCSU for taking a beating in Columbia allows for fancier facilities in Orangeburg. I doubt that a game with USC makes the difference on whether or not Bulldog football goes under.

It is not a "gesture". The payout is for the foretiture of having to play a home and home series. The bigger schools use a payout/payoff, to skip the away game for the smaller school.
There is no generosity being employed in those contracts.

There should be controlled scrimmages against other teams and exhibition games

Yeah, I liked the idea of making the spring game be against one of these lower level teams. Its basically a practice anyway.

That team gets their money, we get a practice, and we dont have to waste a week during the real season.

During our independent years, we would schedule Dook and Wake regularly, almost always at home, with occasional forays to Winston Salem and Durham. Same idea. More income for each school.

I agree with you regarding out of state FCS schools. In-state is a little different, IMO.

Sounds like a good way to support in-state FCS schools.

And MLB teams play their AAA teams after spring training right before the season starts.
That is a perfect example of how P4 teams should play FCS teams, as an "exhibition" type game. Neither the NFL example (a game that benefitted charities played before the season started) or your MLB game were/are part of the regular season nor did they count toward a team's season record.

And the NFL example... sometimes the college kids beat the Superbowl champs.

Eventually, I think we'll see the elimination of the remaining cupcake games as well. To the extent college football is moving toward an NFL model, I expect it will do so with scheduling as well. The TV packages will be worth more without the cupcake games and with a 24 team playoff, the pressure to pad your win total will be diminished.

Actually, that SCSU game was a harbinger of things to come. Our offense only scored 17 points that game. That's the game where I started getting worried that our team was not going to be what it was made out to be in the pre-season.

We are known for not even being able to handle the cupcakes. The people on here that want all of the cupcakes gone must want to go to less bowl games than we already do.

The flip side to that is, do we deserve a bowl if the cupcakes are the only reason we're in one?

Imo, id just like to see games against at least G5 teams. Its supposed to be a competition. Playing FCS teams is just a waste of time. Chalk up the win, hope for no injuries, it really is just a glorified practice.

The lower levels of G5 are not much different from FCS. Most of the teams in C-USA were FCS teams 2-3 years ago.

I dont really give a crap about your opinion, retard.

You're the one who started calling me a racist because I didn't want to play FCS teams.

This is where you start crying about me "stalking" you even though you're too stupid to realize you quoted and responded to me.

I hope you are right. If it goes to a 24 team playoff, college football will have become a total joke. Anyone who has ever said the number 24 team in the polls is the best team in the country is a total retard.

Oh, so you are going to just go full-blown crash-out now? Laughing and Shaking my head. If I did call you a racist, I know a guy like you would be itching to report it. I did call you uneducated which you just proved in your response. However, I could care less about your racial preferences. I am not looking for a job from you or trying to purchase property. So, I don't give a crap. .....and as you have said to me a couple of times. This is a message board. I will respond to who I want.

Here's the post where, shocker, the board race baiter called a poster racist for not wanting to play FCS teams.

When I show proof like this is where you usually start crying about "not having time" and then stop posting on the thread. That always fools everyone too.
