So it took Dabo 7 full seasons as head coach to win a national championship. Yet, HCMR is expected to turn things around here in 3 or 4 years. Some Husker fans need to stop living in the past and realize it takes time to build a program, especially when you have lost your luster through the years for various reasons. And yes we have lost our luster outside the state of Nebraska. Give the man time. Progress has been shown in 2 years. Wins and losses aren't the only things that determine progress. Patience. Thoughts?

i honestly didnt see much progress. the only reason we showed a 4 game improvement was because the in game mgmt was so bad in year 1.

defense was somewhat better but still well below avg against anyone with a pulse.

offense turned it over less, but was generally worse.

Venables was brought in after Dabo's 4th season (or 3rd, pending your view of interim tag). And I doubt he was considered "the best defensive coordinator in college football" at the time he went to Clemson. But I'll digress on him...

Offensively, agree, with a very similar type of offenses they were already running though.

6, 4, 13, 14 & 14 are the class rankings of this current team. Including the #1 QB in the land, it's amazing what an elite decision maker can do at that spot. One that is familiar and comfortable in said system.

20, 39, 12, 17 & 18 are the class rankings of his 2010 team.

2016 team, average class of 10.
2010 team, average class of 21.

Talent, coaching, or a dang good combination...

Dabo is a good coach, no doubt. And his recruiting has been helped by the fact that South Carolina is very mediocre right now.
I was at a game in Clemson three years ago. Very cool gameday atmosphere. Very nice fans.
But we need to give Riley time. I know people are tired of hearing this, but it is true. He really inherited a mess.
I hope our recruiting picks up. It is really my only concern right now.

I'm cool with giving Riley 7 years to win a NC - but does anyone really truly believe that he will have Nebraska even be remotely close to Clemsen?

I do. Let's not inflate how amazing they are. PSU proved this year that there is often only a thin line that separates really good teams from average teams. One or two key players, especially at QB, can make all the difference. Franklin finally got a QB that fit his system and he wins the B1G. Even the great Osborne's teams tended to be great or merely good, depending on who the QB was. And the disparity between Clemson's QB and Bama's was the difference in that game.

So let's see how good Clemson is without their star QB.
And let's not write off Riley. I am excited to see what a difference a real QB makes for us next year
