I think that's fair. I still believe in Pope, but he's definitely got to acclimate to the position and get some NIL help in the form of a GM.
Was it Harrellson who mouthed off to Cal, so Cal ran him like a dog and that ended up helping him play? Not a benching situation, I think, but definitely an "actions have consequences" situation.

Or at UK is goofy to give this job to a coach that obviously had some growing up to do as a coach and now we're "training on the job".
Point blank, most athletes, won't say how it really is to not get in bad graces with players/teams, etc....I don't really put alot of stock into what most athletes comment upon sportswise (outside of Barkley...Richard Sermon on football side is sort of hitting the mold of "say what needs to be said kind of guy"

Darius is a nice guy. He knows Pope desperately needs some positive PR coming from the former players right now. That's all this is. There's no substance here though.

Sorry but that's BS. I guess Darius could never know more than a bunch of keyboard clowns. If he read this board I'm sure he would be ready to forfeit the rest of the season. He knows there's time to get healthy and make a run in the SEC.
Love Darius but you can’t buy any of that. He wants access and that’s fair. He wants to be loved by everyone his legacy is here. Just like Pitino up talked it, most will. Dan Issel is 100% honest and dgaf. I’ll listen to him in these things. Darius is also a great guy, one of the nicest most humble players I’ve ever met. He’ll spend as much time standing with you as you want. He’s just not going to be honest here and I don’t blame him. It’s not his job to sound off on these things to the media. I sat close to Darius at a game recently, just a great guy. He’s got loads of access with Pope and he’s not going against him. Period.
I would love Darius Miller on this team with his perimeter shooting on the wing in the role Kam Williams was supposed to provide. I know we all want to hear players tell it like it is, but Miller isn't going to do that. He loves Kentucky and there is nothing for him to gain trashing the program. That has never been Darius.
Probably true, but so what? Cousins, Issel, Mashburn, and Givens are four of our best all time. I'd actually put each of them in UK basketball's all-time top ten players (while in college). Each and every one of them has stated that this team sucks.
It's funny that if an ex-player says anything other than negative things "it's not his job" but all of the other guys ripping Pope have no such distinction. I think Pope is stinking it up this year but that doesn't mean I'm going to brush off Darius' comments as having any less merit than Issel, Cousins or anyone else. Especially Cousins who has zero loyalty to UK I can see.
Just telling you Darius has a lot of access right now. Maybe he believes it, but I doubt it. He’s definitely not going to say anything different. It doesn’t matter quit trying to find something to grasp because your in a sea of the opposite of what you want and this gives you a breath. He has no idea what this is going to become, no idea with JMI, he doesn’t understand that NIL it’s not his era. So it’s irrelevant. Doesn’t matter.
The facts are this isn’t going to be to Kentucky standard. Doesn’t matter if you like that.
But he kinda does suck at his job…coaching at UK is more than X’s and O’s. He’s just not that type of coach and that’s ok at another school but not UK
