Sorta like if I watched Iowa against the Minnesota Vikings.

There is a reason why Fitz only won 3 out of 28 games vs PSU MICH OSU. We get savaged and pantsed embarrassing fashion.

The great news is that we play hard to the end and do much better against mid level programs. Getting to 6 wins wont happen this year but hopefully we get some transfers along both lines and can stabilize the program from Dark Ages 2.0.
Fitz needs to work his luck immediately after we got savaged and get some transfer OL and DL and MLB.

What an unpleasant football game to watch today!

No. Just rebuilding this year. We've won the the Big Ten West twice in three years. And didn’t we just have a player go in the first round of NFL draft? There’s more talent than ever on the roster. And we finally have a modern offense.

If we can limit our opponents to around only 200 yrds rushing then we can stay in ballgames. These 300 yrd rushing games and getting blown off the ball dont work

It is not the dark ages again. We can still win the division theoretically, but we need to really step it up. Michigan is as good as advertised. The Wolverines are indeed back.

Point out the returning talent that will get better. Most starters are upperclassmen or ready fully developed..

No. I lived and died through the dark ages. This is NOT the dark ages.

Today was not dark ages football. I don't think we ever held Michigan to 10 points in the Dark Ages.

The first 5 games of the season smelled a lot like the Dark Ages though. Need to cut JON loose at the end of the year, and we need to find an offense. Things are slightly better than when Mick McCall was here, but not nearly good enough.

My freshman year, first weekend on campus, we played at the Big Outhouse and lost 17-10. We were driving late but didn't score.

If the NU dark ages started when I was a Junior in 1978, NU gave up the following to Michigan:

38
63
59
49
17 (referenced above in 1980, when NU went 0-11)
38
49
35
31
29
59
40

It wasn't until '95 when the held 'em to 13 and finally beat them.

Those saying this isn't The Dark Ages 2.0 may have to reconsider after the season. NU is likely to lose the rest. Those fans who watch the rest of this season will become eligible for the Croix de Northwestern.

NU is not getting enough coaching and recruiting at DC and OC. At duh-OSU, they'd be gone now. At NU, they could still last years.

Yeah, two division titles in three (soon to be four)years and four straight bowl wins. Current one game losing streak (could be six by the end of the season, but we'll see). Really close to the Dark Ages. NOT

SO much has changed about CFB since then. We were bad, but, so were a LOT of Big Ten teams. It was truly big 2 little 8 for the early part, we might play one ranked B1G team other than OSU Mich. So, to continually lose to those teams showed how truly bad we were. OTOH, we didn't have a lot of tomato cans to kick over in non-con. So, compared to, say, 2019, where we beat two truly putrid non-con foes, or this year, where we beat a terrible MAC team and a bad FCS team, those early Dark Ages teams played guys like North Carolina, ND, AZ state, Colorado.

To me, the determining factor could be where we were in PPG against. Compare those years to 2019, where we couldn't score but we had a very good defense. The Dark Ages teams gave up a TON of points, even in those run-heavy, huddle years. We were always way down in the bottom 10% of points allowed. Even this year, when there is a great wailing and gnashing of teeth about our defense, we're in the middle in PPG allowed. Unless Fitz let's JON out of the doghouse, I don't expect that to change. 33 against Michigan, of which 10 came after very short fields due to INT and blocked punt. The defense wasn't at last year's level, but not terrible, and - trust me - NOTHING like Dark Ages. Interstate 294, Northwestern zero. Film at 11, Northwestern zero. Feel free to add your own. It's not Dark Ages 2.0. We have the ideal coach for our program, great facilities, a stadium renovation coming, a supportive administration. It's like night and day. No comparison

Dark Ages 2.0 hopefully we can get a second big ten win. Do we play Rutgers again this year? Who are we going to beat? We don't have anything going on.

Where is all of the talent that gocatsgo claimed we nabbed in recruiting classes? When is the OL Coach going to produce like Coral insist? When will Corbi's guaranteed victories ever ring true? When will JON coach up our defense not to give up about 300 rushing yards a game?

I think the Dark Ages are defined by institutional neglect, which led to the results on the field. I don’t see any evidence of institutional neglect today.

We do have problems with hiring qualified coaches. Fitz needs to go back to asking Barnett who to hire. Hankwitz was a massive hit. His other three coordinators, not so much. Especially JON who was a ridiculously bad and unqualified hire by any definition.

Funny… I got attacked on the Rock for simply asking if he was consulted.

Maybe the free board has become the safe space for NU truth seekers?

One thing I do every year is fall for the hype, mostly here, about our new recruits. Bigger, faster, stronger - sounds like the 6 million dollar man intro "we can rebuild him..." Then we hear that they are setting PR's in the weight room, etc. Then, they show up on the field, and the same problems exist. Receivers can't get separation. Lineman blown off the LOS. 3 years and counting of recruited QB's being beaten out by transfers, kickers can't make a field goal. Now, the overall results are nice - one losing season, so far, in the last 6 years, 2 B1G West banners, 4 bowl wins, graduation rates, etc. I love to complain, but I'm content with the overall state of the program. But - the meme about Fitz 'making do with less' is, unfortunately, true. The other new meme, started this year, is "odd year Northwestern", which the team is fulfilling, unfortunately.

IKR.
We have glaring problems. To justify, coral and corbi praise michigan as "being back". Arent those the same 2 posters who claim our coaches are superior to Hairball?
No, michigan isnt back. They were lucky to barely win against 2 awful programs. They are decent but they looked great only because of JONs defense. I gave JON credit last week against rutgers but he is back in the doghouse now.

At any rate, here is hoping TPOF doesnt continue for years to come.

I suspect that the reason the 1980 game was 17-10 was because Michigan didn't even bother to gameplan for us, but spent the week preparing for their next game against #8 Notre Dame.

Or their players smoked weed like they did against Appalachian State. Only they still beat us.

I think Chuck Kern was not yet injured, so he probably had like 40 tackles that day. Never saw him play, he was injured before the first home game of my freshman year, but I hear he was a beast. ICR which game he was injured in.
