I did not know the back story on this guy. He is now part of the Fox team and a Michigan supporter. Apparently he was instrumental in getting Underwood to Michigan along with Larry Ellison's wife. Why would Fox choose this guy? Is he that popular? They already have Meyer who is an unapologetic OSU shill, now this guy. I guess they wanted to balance out Meyer and figure it is good TV to have the obvious tension between him and Meyer. He also was banned from being in OSU Stadium because of his blatant Michigan support but of course OSU has back pedaled on that.

I don't watch Big Noon and if I had cable I'd barely watch Gameday. Don't like the inarticulate Michigan apologist (Howard), out of control talker: McAfee, now Portnoy (arrogant Michigan man).
If GameDay was Reece Davis, Herbstreit, and Saban it would be watchable. If Big Noon dropped Portnoy, I might consider watching.
I do watch the ABC and CBS pregame shows. Not too many people and not overdone.

I know 2 things about Dave. 1) he's a smart businessman. He sold a company for $550M and bought it back for $1 and 2) he's not the greatest judge of character. Willie's Pizza in Juno Beach is fantastic, but Willie is a miserable prick and everyone knows it. Except Dave apparently.
Not sure why all these channels feel the need to find the biggest a-holes on the planet to do their shows - ESPN is of course the all time
He's the brainchild behind 'Barstool Sports' - sort of the 'guy's guy' platform/outlet for the way sports are talked about and covered (read: less overtly political Clay Travis). Portnoy got his start running a betting rag and was able to expand with social media. He has nice looking women, guys with dumb nicknames, and does a bunch of 'bro-ey' stunts (like his 'one bite' pizza reviews). I don't watch any pre-game shows anymore and can't believe I ever bothered to before. They're garbage. That Desmond Howard has made a career out of it should tell you how utterly useless it is.
I watch Big Noon a little but now with both Meyer and this guy I don't want to watch it. ESPN GameDay is not a great option either. Herbie is okay I guess. Saban okay. But Desmond Howard is horrific. I'm just surprised they would hire essentially a Michigan booster but I guess he is a media guy or whatever. I would think they could find someone at least more objective.
Don't forget all of the sexual assault allegations! Portnoy is a dirtbag, we are all worse off thanks to FOX giving him a broader platform.
Seems like a fair take. I only watch his pizza/cheesesteak reviews and enjoy them. Sports talk bores me, I avoid any gameday shows. I can watch without them explaining football to me.
Is he that popular? Yes he has a large following especially younger fans which is what FOX is targeting.
Barstool Sports alone makes it worth it for FOX.
