Just watched his tape for the first time....Real Deal! Would easily be a highly rated player if he lived in another state or participated in the "underwear olympics"(summer camps). The acceleration and athleticism that he has is as good as it gets on a high school level, not to mention that he is at least 6 foot. I hope he stays healthy and comes in mature from a mental standpoint. If so, he could see a lot of playing time this year.

We are pretty deep at DB, he might actually get to redshirt this year.

He needs to add some weight and strength, but he should be a really good player for Stoops.

This is just me, but I think he is more athletic than any DB we have. I would like to shirt him to get stronger but I'm not so sure who we have is that much better than he is. Keep in mind we played a few youngsters last year. They are not that far ahead in the strength department.

The 5:20 mark is all I need to know about this kid. Not many kids these days respond to adversity like this anymore.

I feel like we have a pretty big list of defensive backs: Baity, Beckham, Blaylock, Edwards, Harmon, Jackson, McClain, McWilson, Randolph, Tucker, Walker, West, and Westry.

So, on the two deep you'd have:

CB1: Westry/Harmon
CB2: Baity/Randolph
NB: McClain/Randolph
S: Edwards/West
S: McWilson

I am not exactly sure how the staff will shake out the safety positions. Last year McWilson backed up Edwards while West backed up Stamps. This year they very well could move the safeties around and start Edwards and McWilson, or they could leave McWilson as Edward's backup and move West into the starting role. West didn't start any as a freshman while McWilson started in 9 games and Edwards started in 5. That leads me to think that the staff will likely move McWilson up and leave West as a backup. Also coming into the fold is one hell of a safety prospect, Marcus Walker. ESPN had him as a 4 star recruit and a top 250 player who had offers from a ton of big time schools. He took a redshirt last year, but it is going to be extremely hard to keep him off the field this year. He may push for a starting job.

Still, we have some backup roles that can and likely will be filled by others. Randolph doesn't need to backup two positions and Harmon isn't exactly lockdown. Jackson is a 6'3" redshirt freshman that the staff should like a lot because of his height. You have to imagine that he'll see some time on the edges this year. Beckham is another corner that is probably more suited for the NB position. He may take that role as a backup and allow Randolph to play a bit more on the edges.

Coming in you have Griffin, Gilliam, and Robinson. Hughes is also a likely candidate. Most of these guys project to be corners. If I had to guess at least one of them is going to be a player that contributes from the word go. If I had to guess it likely comes down to Griffin and Robinson. Whoever puts on some more good solid weight and wins out in fall camp will probably be the guy that ends up playing and the other will likely redshirt.

Of course, this is all just my lowly opinion.

I could see Walker getting into the conversation at safety. I could also see McClain playing there in his senior year.

I think Hughes will RS as a WR.

I think they start Edwards and West. Mcwilson stays as Edwards backup and Walker backs up West... Walker might push West actually I heard they love him.

Love or not, West is one of the best safety prospects we've had in years. I'd much rather see him start with Walker backing him up so that we can give Walker time to adjust to SEC speed.

Whatever the staff says is best, I'll trust. They have proven to know good back fields.

No i think I agree, was just more of a comment on how good Walker is then any thing negative on West.

But another thing that we need to remember both of those guys(Edwards/West) have had injuries while being here so great depth will be needed to get through a whole season.

True. I just don't want to have a redshirt freshman thrown to the dogs and repeatedly get burned because he was thrown to the fire- especially in a year where success is going to be imperative. Given that Robinson is being coached by Ansley and Stoops, I doubt that will be a problem, but it's still something on my mind.

Good point, though. You tied in the other worry of something happening to West and/or Edwards again.

Yeah I hate doing that but with our team injuries happening so often during our seasons you have to plan on that being part of the formula.

This staff has done a good job RSing when they can, but play the best players, regardless of youth. If depth requires, I think some of the young DBs will be called into service. And, from what I have read, we have 3 very talented backs committed.

Did he receive his 4th star? If he had committed to Ohio St, ND or Bama he would of gotten a serious look by the ratings agency to see if he would be a 5.9 or 6.0 recruit. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Not sure he's physical enough just yet. He'll need to be a lot more physical to play DB for stoops. Had quiet a few chances to blow guys up in the video but chose to shoulder tackle. Think i like the kid better with the ball in his hands. Put him in a Timmons type roll returning kicks and in the slot catching balls behind the line of scrimmage and making guys miss.

Looks like he is having fun. Not sure I had seen that kind of excitement from a player in any of these videos.

My thinking is the most ready dB plays and the other 2 or 3 rs. We have good depth and experience across the board in the secondary.

The more guys we can rs in this class the better.

True.

And the more games we can win, the better. They have to strike a balance between the two. The choices will be pretty obvious in a lot of cases, not so in some.
