I don't even know where to begin.

I saw a post about Venables and I don't think I want a second go with him.

Thoughts? and do we need a complete overhaul in the defensive coaching staff or are there ones you would keep?

Patterson would be great as OU's DC except for (1) I think he's tired from overachieving for so many years at TCU and (2) don't know why he'd take a demotion when (if he wanted to coach) he'd be a home run as a HC hire for a ton of programs?
I think GP is willing and ready to take a couple years off from being a head coach. I think he would recognize his defensive scheme with the athletic talent could be a huge boost for him and his perception as a head coaching candidate.

If it plays out the way I think it would: his addition as DC/ Assistant head coach changes OU into a full on beast...ready to beat anyone. With his amazing coaching at TCU combined with putting OU over the top, his brand would never be more valuable as a leader of young men.

The guy is a lifer as coach, dedicated, and doesn't accept failure. Probably one of the missing ingredients to the current program. I also like the two other related benefits to the hire: LR has a highly experienced coach that has been there, done that AND LR has a guy in the building that rightly/wrongly makes him worry about his job.

I could see Patterson take on a Analyst/consultant role somewhere, I don't know if he'd take a dc role though, may have too much pride after being a hc?

Based on the first 3 quarters of the Baylor game and the first 3 quarters of the Iowa State game, I am okay with Grinch getting another year to work on the defense, with more of his players being recruited.....7 very promising ones so far for 2022.
The offense needs to establish the running game with the offensive line improving and Caleb Williams getting better at finding open receivers.
What's adding to Grinch's problems (and it hasn't been talked about here) is the time of possession being dominated by the opposition, especially in OU's last two games....35 minutes to 24 minutes vs. Baylor and 38 minutes to 21 minutes vs. Iowa State. The fourth quarter in these two games were brutal. OU did not survive it vs. Baylor and barely hung on yesterday. In both games, the defense looked tired late in the games.

Any defense is going to get tired when the offense can't sustain drives. That said, I'm not complaining about two play drives that cover 75 yards.

The defense played great against ISU, multiple sacks and turnovers, plus a TD.

The offense, the lack of execution, dink and dunk passing, both QB not seeing the field. Granted Riley can only use about 50-60% of the playbook with Caleb. But let the kid get comfortable and give him easy completions. Grey is the disappointment, he hasn't given us, that consistent, 1-2 punch.

If something were to happen, I say we go strong for Chris Ash.

But a true OC, is way more important right now.

Wish I knew why Major is being held out these last three games.
I believe his OU future will be one of several "major" off season changes for this program.

Think I'll stick with Grinch. That defense was flying all over the field on Saturday. Great, great performance, and for the first time since early in the season, I think we have a chance against the pokes.

If OSU were so invincible, then I guess they would have beaten the cyclones, right? OSU is probably not as good as I-state on offense. Better on defense than I-state by some, but not a whole lot.

Don't get me wrong, I understand why OSU will be favored, but now that we're heathier on D, I think that Grinch-led unit will keep us in contention for the whole game on Sat.
