Veteran Penn State defensive lineman is no longer with the Nittany Lions
Penn State defensive end Smith Vilbert is going into the NCAA transfer portal months after saying he would return for one final ride.
Well that is now two potential DE starters gone: Vanover denied extra year of eligibility and Smith Vilbert portalled. Serious hit to DE experience and depth.Next man up.
Vanover is the bigger loss. While depth and experience may be thinner now, DDS, Granville, and White were most likely the top three DEs anyway. Smith-Vilbert was most likely still a complimentary player to those three. I don’t blame him for exploring other options for his last year….or he was persuaded to leave.Well that is now two potential DE starters gone: Vanover denied extra year of eligibility and Smith Vilbert portalled. I saw rumors that he was offered more money elsewhere.Vanover is the bigger loss. While depth and experience may be thinner now, DDS, Granville, and White were most likely the top three DEs anyway.
