I see we picked up another QB out of the portal -- Deacon Hill from Wisconsin. Will be a redshirt sophomore with three seasons of eligibility.

Should help with depth in the QB room. The May transfer makes a little more sense now.

Looks like he's considered a "pro-style" QB. Listed as 6-3, 251(!!).

“That dude’s got a cannon,”
“Anybody will tell you that arm is crazy.”

“His pure arm talent is pretty incredible, honestly,”
“Some of the throws he makes are ridiculous.”

“He has an arm out of this world,”
“There’s just some plays I’m like, ‘I don’t even know how you would even manage to throw the football.’”

Hill isn’t surprised to hear the way teammates talk about his arm strength. It’s been a staple of his game throughout his high school career and served as one of the primary reasons former xxxxxxxxx quarterbacks coach Jon Budmayr identified Hill so early on the recruiting trail.

This commitment brings us up to #44 in On3’s portal rankings.

Also notable, for the first time, they are showing us with a net gain from the portal on the year.

Buckyville forums say he may be even more immobile than Petras...buy nice to have depth at the position!
Prossibly, but he can take a hit, look at the guys as if to say wtf are doing, and still throw the ball(saw that in his video)... He reminds me of Big Ben. Doubt he has Ben's quickness of release & decision making, but I'll take it!

yea... no... this is a good get.
if the negtards theory is right... as the #2 or #3 QB on the depth chart.. he'll be the best quarterback on the roster

you never know how these young men will develop... he might be the starting quarterback on Opening Day against Utah State.

for me, if this young man is good enough for Kirk Ferentz and company.. then he's good enough for me.

plus... he wants to be a Hawkeye.. I only want the guys that want to be here.. and I support them all.

Some have compared him to Nate Stanley. Hard to tell about passing, but at 6'3" 251 he might be able to sneak it like Nate. That alone would be a big plus.

Offering a kid for depth makes sense given the departures but I am not sure why Iowa would offer a QB that is likely less mobile than Petras. If you are offering for depth then whoever it is will only see action in practice and have low/no trust from the coaching staff to run the offense. Mobility is a constant that doesn't need coaching. If all else fails and the starter gets dinged up, bring a dude in that can free lance a bit and move the chains with their legs. Pretty simple to call RPO action.

Sorry but I value the staffs evaluation much more than yours. No offense not some know him up close and personal.

You trust this staff when it comes to QB evaluations? You must be excited by grabbing Hill from the jaws of Fordham. Iowa between a rock and a hard spot for Spring Ball as only Labas may be available. Only program in the country that puts a premium on immobile QBs. Lainez won’t be a factor for at least two years if you want to play that card. Let me refresh your memory:
Padilla - Gone
Hogan - Gone
May - Gone

Sorry but I do trust them a helleva lot more than your evaluations. I even trust their evaluation of Cade. Do you?
As far as the rest of your above response I think you answered your own concern. They need bodies at QB and doubt their not getting many 4 or 5 star kids at this point.

You value the staff's evaluations after finishing 131st offensively and seeing Charlie Jones go from bring a special teams / 3rd down receiver to one of the best WR's in the country at Purdue?

And what credentials do you bring to the table I might ask? Tell me why I should believe you know this kids ability and the reasons why they should not bring him in at this point. The staff may read this post and learn from you! Also anxious to see how high Jones goes in the draft after becoming one of the best receivers in the country at Purdue.

Yes because there must be several mobile QBs with strong arms in the portal who are looking for opportunities to go somewhere to be a backup……not!

Plenty of Freshman that are in the portal. Hell Nebraska pulled Purdy in just for that last year.

"Arm like a cannon, Moves like a Boulder" is thr exact quote I saw from a Wisconsin fan.
"He showed up at camp at like 275 pounds" was another.

There is your 2023 starting QB fwiw.

Are you implying you need a mobile QB to run RPO's?
