Defense difference between halves

So what happened? How do we give up 42 points and Just short of 10,000 yards in the first and then shut them out and hold them to decent yardage in the second?

I realize the 4th quarter was conservative to run clock but it was still a noticeable difference.

What changed? Scheme? Nerves? Confidence? Momentum? Defensive adjustments?

Well, NU played a little better in their execution and Oregon went conservative.

I am not a technical X's and O's guys, so I don't know what was different... except it looked like the speed of Oregon was hard for our defense to catch up to, and when we did, we played much better.

Now Oregon probably did things differently as well, but there was a big difference between halves. Looking forward to the responses here.

How do we win giving up 600 yards?

We made adjustments don't know exactly what they were but they had to call TO's early in the 3rd

There wasn't many changes made from what I saw. Oregon made a lot of mistakes and let off the gas is what explains most of the difference. We do defend the inside run better. We still gave up quite a few big plays in the second half but were able to end drives before they scored points.

I keep seeing all of this "they went conservative" and "they let off the gas" so I ask when was the last time you seen Oregon get conservative?

If Oregon can score 100 then you better bet your *** that they're going to score 100, that is their comfort zone and that is how they play. They don't have a defense so dumping as many points on an opponent as fast as possible is the name of the game.

All I know is that for the first two games our defense played horribly in the first half. It should not take an entire half to figure out the opposing team's offense and make adjustments. Why is Diaco in the booth then if he can't make adjustments DURING the game and not just at the half. If he can't make adjustments from the booth then he needs to get his *** on the sideline.

We can't win the B1G West by only playing one half of defense

A lot of the breaks went our way in the 2nd half. The balls stopped bouncing off of receivers and into their hands. Take away the first pass of the game and its probably a 14 point swing. Take away the 3rd down deflection and its another big point swing. We had a couple go our way in the 2nd half.

We were playing behind the eight ball way to early in the game first play was a huge swing I do feel they went a little to conservative in the late 3 and the 4th they were comfortable with that 14 point lead...

I don't think anyone on the rest of our schedule are going to have offenses like Oregon and Ark St, maybe NW.

They probably have rarely gone conservative in the last 10 years with that hurry-up offense they ran. Probably never since the day that Chip Kelly took over and passed it on to Helfrich.

With that being said, this year they have a new head coach. I do not know anything about Taggart, but maybe he doesn't like to run the score up on opponents.

All I know is that their offense didn't seem anywhere near as aggressive as they were to open the game.

Also, the Oregon of the Chip Kelly and Helfrich days probably would have went for the score at the end of the 4th quarter... yet they took a knee last night. That tells me that Taggart knew the game was over and there was no reason to add points to the scoreboard. Or he has an NFL mentality as a coach.

Either that or Taggart was scared to throw a pick 6 at the end of the game...

They punted multiple times at their own 40 yard line when their offense was rolling us. That's as conservative as it gets. They were trying to run out the clock the entire 4th quarter and you could see it in their playcalling. Oregon has a new coach this year. What's so difficult to believe that he's more conservative than the last 2 head coaches?

First of all making references to Oregon regarding what they have been in the past is unfounded under this coach. This is the second week that they have scored less in the second half than they did in the first.

They scored 6 TD's in the first half against Southern Utah, 5 TD's in the second half. Is that what you consider conservative?
