From year to year, from group to group we have different players with different abilities. I remember the intense man to man defense we played during the, dare I say it, Petino years. However you are not going to have teams that have that ability every year. You must be able to adapt to your personnel. We've had spurts of good defensive play, but in general what I'm seeing is a lack of the intensity that hangs banners.

The idea of a good defense is to disrupt the opposing teams offense. Create chaos. Don't give the opposing offense a defensive pattern that they can play and adapt to during the game.

Now what I'm going to point out may not be popular with some, but I think concerning our defensive sets it is something we should consider in one form or another. Could Cal handle it or teach it is an entirely different question. But I honestly feel just telling guys to play harder is falling short.

I hated Dale Brown, but have to concede if you want to create more chaos this is just one philosophy to consider.
