Defensive Gameplan...?

I will be the first to admit that I haven't watched a lot of OSU's games this year. But as I was thinking about it, do you think it would be wise to try to pressure Fields a little? Hear me out on this.... We really have nothing to lose, as most don't even expect Nebraska to be in the game. Also, lets be honest..... their skill position guys are better across the board than our defensive players for the most part. Would it be wise to bring some blitzes and try to get in Fields face to make him throw it early? or would you think it would be wiser to sit back and make them have long sustained drives to get their points? I'm just trying to think about getting our defense some rest, as I feel like if we allow them to have long drives and score on them, and if our offense can't stay on the field long enough to give them a break, wouldn't it be wiser to just take some risks and go for the gusto? I'm curious as to what others think? I'm looking forward to the atmosphere of the game, as I'm sure the stadium is going to be rocking.... Even if we get down I hope the fans stay in it and help the boys out! GBR!!!!!

Stop Dobbins, try to make tOSU one dimensional, send pressure when you stop Dobbins.

plan is easy. Execution, not so much.

Just employ the Texas defense when we just all out blitzed like every play. Just said F it.

This needs to be our defensive gameplan against OSU:

1. Stop the run.
2. Stop the run.
3. Stop the run.
4. Refer back to step 1.

I do see a lot of teams going the "force the QB to beat us" route.

I think the Huskers run D has been pretty stout so far. Corbin torched us on one big run but then it seemed like they adjusted. I agree that pressure will help and force Fields to make faster reads than he may want or get them into bad checks at the line of scrimmage (hopefully our crowd is disruptive)

We really do have a shot here. Young QB in a hostile (hopefully) environment. Get him rattled with a few early errors will really go along way

The D is going to have to step up big time one. Tuco is correct and this has been the motto of this D all year, stop the run. That is the plan every week, this being no exception. There is no denying our D is very much improved overall. However, there are obvious weaknesses that I expect OSU to exploit. Illinois found some of them and has more opportunities they just missed on. I don't expect OSU to do that. I hope I am wrong.

I thought coaches said we may see some 4-3 packages mixed in, and I don’t believe that’s been happening so far. With our depth on DL perhaps they throw in some 4-3 wrinkles to help confuse OSU.

We gotta play sound assignment football while also attacking aggressively. Like Tuco mentioned: easier said than done.

Forcing some turnovers would be huge tomorrow.

Got to have good tackling. There’s been a few letdown moments this year with that.

Stop the run. We could rattle Fields due to youth but we’re not going to rattle Dobbins.

Stop the run and contain Fields. With it possibly raining for the game, maybe making them pass will help us pull this upset off.

Funny to look back on how bad and unathletic that D was. Any D that McKeon is the leader you know is going to suck.
Could you guys please keep it down when we are on defense we cant communicate out here .... we cant hear Shhhhh lmao

Yeah, wasn't trying to dispute anyone really. I just don't believe OSU is unstoppable. They have played nobody. And I'm not saying we're somebody but we'll have a pulse come Saturday night. My best friend is a Buckeye who lives in Denver. I asked him how confident he is. He said, "well, not really considering each year we blow a primetime game at night on the road."

We're just 4 games into the season - still much to learn.

They very well could b a top 5 team - but I don't have enough of a sample size to say they are one of the best teams in the country.

Would be something to have two teams from the west knock off the two top teams from the east in back to back weeks.

They've played two teams that are on equal footing with Nebraska (Indiana and Cincy) so I wouldn't say they've played nobody.

Also this team isn't like last year's or the year before. There's no Urban/Schiano to completely screw up the defense. It's much better coached.

They will run Dobbins heavy on the first 2 drives, maybe 3...first 15 plays. That is our only chance. If we go balls out and stop the run, force them to punt and score two tds in those 15 plays them we can put pressure on them. We need a 14-20 point handicap. Regardless they will open up the pass and the spread game at that point once fields has gotten comfortable with the environment. If he is down 14 and he has defenders in his face maybe we can force some bad throws or a turnover. He hasn't had any pressure in his face and the play book is relatively simple for him at this point. Remember he is at about the same knowledge level as AM last year at this time.

Game plan should look like this :
1. Stop the run
2. Stop the pass

The offense being consistent through all 4 quarters and not putting our defense in precarious positions over and over again could go along way for the defense's game plan.

Ask Colorado and a young Kordel Stewart. IF, and its a big IF, Nebraska gets up and then forces a turnover or back to back punts then he will not just rattle but crumble. Have to score early and have to get then off schedule, but anything is possible.

Speaking as an OSU fan, I expect us to spread the field and get the ball to our playmakers. Dobbins will get his carries but I don't expect us to be run happy. Day wants a balanced offense. Fields has not run much option so far this year. I think he will be used more in the running game. It will be interesting to see if the Huskers crowd the box and force us to pass. On defense I would assign one of our linebackers or our bullet (hybrid CB/LB) to Martinez. Our DEs have to stay gap sound and respect the option. Stretch the play from sideline to sideline. We do get 2 defensive lineman back for this game so we should be able to rotate 8 in our front 4.

Yep. Especially if it is raining/wet as expected, OSU will take the 4-5 yards on the ground as much as possible as long as it is there. That said, Buckeye's believe they have their best WR group in years (Herbstreit says best in the last decade) so they will exploit that option also.

The defensive game plan starts with the offense. If they become a turnover machine, the plan goes out the door. I don't know if it's possible, but Frost needs to figure out how to keep his defense off the field for more than 25 minutes in the game. If we get **** rolled in the TOP again like we have been, this game will be ugly.

This game will live and die on tackling IMO. Two systems built to get great athletes out in space. With the athletes OSU has, they're going to get some yards and some points.

But if the defense sticks to doing their job and doesn't get into those old habits of trying to do too much, being off playing some other dude's responsibility and just letting it turn into a meltdown, they've got a shot.

OSU has been busting huge, explosive plays on teams. If we can make them earn it and try to get Fields uncomfortable maybe it turns into a ballgame.

What I worry about most is not our defense vs their offense but our OL vs their DL and our WR vs their DBs. Adrian won't get away with some of the throws he has against a secondary like this.

Seeing the name McKeon makes me want to punch a baby seal. Never seen a more pathetic defensive unit in my 30 years of fandom.
