Barely even bothered signing a recruiting class, with 5 commits per Sporting News. He still sees the portal as the best way to build the roster. Can't say it's right or wrong at this point. Recruiting has taken on a new complexion, with no guarantees that the players you recruit will be there for more than a season.

They got off to a hot start last year, but once there was tape out there on them, they barely scratched out 1 win over an equally horrible ASU in their final 9 games.

Despite all the accolades from some in the media - the OC last year was hot garbage. He failed upwards and is now the HC at San Diego State, but his offense is easy to figure out (it's just spread and tempo, but he doesn't know how to adjust in-game). He had some people fooled in the beginning, but that's why he was demoted. Not hating though - he turned one incredible offensive season during covid into a boat load of cash.

As for the portal recruiting - why not. He should have a real team this coming year, now that he'll have a foundation of veterans in the program to use as the foundation. This last year was more of an experiment than anything. We'll see if he learned anything.

I looked at their class. Seems to be higher quality portal guys than last year. You see more Alabama, LSU, and Power 5 quality guys instead of the Kent State, USF, and Dartmouth transfers that they got the previous year.
