Penn State losing to Oregon at home and UCLA on the road in consecutive weeks is not the end of the world! In fact it happened before in 1964!
We lost at UCLA 14-21 on September 26, 1964 and at home to Oregon 14-22 the following week, October 3, 1964.
Take heart! The season ended well and notably we defeated the #2 ranked Buckeyes in Columbus 27-0 in November.
Our coaching staff can use this to motivate the team as Rip Engle was the head coach.
One more positive from this: 2 years later Penn State had a new head coach who turned out to be somewhat successful!

Didn't CBS note that Franklin is now tied with Rip Engle for number of wins at Penn State? He sure seems to be having trouble getting that one win to best Engle. Maybe it's The Curse of Rip Engle!

Just checked, both have 104 wins at PSU. Of course during the Engle era the season was shorter, there were only a few bowl games, and the competition was tougher. Army, Navy, Maryland, Syracuse and Pitt were powers. Engle teams beat top 5 ranked Ohio State in Columbus back to back in 1963 and 1964.
Rip Engle deserves credit for putting Penn State football on the map.
