I don't follow CBB that closely. Is this something? 53-30 at the half. In Iowa City.

It is something since DePaul has been down for so long, but they have shown improvement in the last few years and they landed a couple of good transfers (including Moore from Cal that we tried to land). They will be better this year, and have the possibility to be a good team if it all comes together for them. At the least, they will be competitive in the Big East and win a fair share of games (which in fairness, they did last year as well).

OMG! DePaul can win! Why not Northwestern?

Paul Reed, who also is a transfer, had a bad game against us last year but came on during the Big East season and is a really good player. It is a mostly junior and senior team. Leitao may be about to have a season like Lovie's (i.e. a job saver!)

Most of the time I think I'll like our chances against DePaul basketball and Illinois football with those guys on the other sidelines. So a little silver lining for this horrible year of football and men's basketball.

Leitao is a decent coach. DePaul had fallen so far, he’ll deserve a lot of credit if they have as good a season as I think they will. They looked very good last night.

The Iowa board reads just like the NU board..."worst defeat ever in the history of basketball."

"We are terrible."

"There will be a ton of blowouts."

Leitao just got an extension a few months ago. His job is already safe.

So did Lovie before this season. Do you think his job was safe if he went 3-9 again?
Of course not! Lovie did not get a “real” extension, it was a sham to allow him to tell recruits he wasn’t going away. But it was just a couple extra years tacked on to his current deal, but nothing added to his buyout.

Leitao’s terms weren’t released, so I guess we don’t know exactly what his extension was. But the school publicly announced they were extending him once the NCAA violations came out, and said it was a four year extension through 2024, so I guess that implies it’s legit?

DePaul is a tough gig, but I’m not sure that he’s going to succeed there. I could be wrong, but I think time may prove that to be the second worst contract extension handed out in the Chicago metro college basketball scene....
