Ranked 14th in his class. He would have been much better staying in Durham for 4 years.

Wonder if he ends up at Gonzaga. Does he have one or two years left? I don't follow people once they leave Duke.

Not good enough for Gonzaga, IMO. Thornton is a good backup to have for a nationally elite program, but he should not be your starter. If he's wanting 10+ FGA a game he might be better off at a school like New Mexico, San Diego State, or UC Irvine.

Best of luck to Derryck. I think he’s been given bad advice and listened to some of the wrong people over time. Here’s to hoping he finds a place to enjoy his senior season.

He played his heart out for Duke his Freshman season. Game that comes to mind is Duke @ Louisville in 2016, Duke almost wins that game thanks to DT.

He balled out against Georgetown and VCU too and helped win those game. He’s a capable starter.

I wish the best for Thorton. I like many others think he has too many people in his ear at times. His uncle made comments about Dukes offense not being to his liking as one of the reasons he left Duke etc.... Kid is talented, plays hard on both end of the ball.. probably a more talented Goldwire is a good comparison.

Hope he finds what he is looking for at his next school. He would of been a great fit for the 16 and even the 17 team had he elected to stay at Duke.

Thornton would have gotten major mins in '17 & '18. His father is to blame.

DT was better college PG than Duval.

Also no matter what happens to Thornton, he will always be apart of Dukes legacy. Specially thanks to that game sealing block against UNC at UNC his one year wearing Duke blue.

I wouldn't go that far. Duval wasn't a great shooter and was a bit careless with the ball at times, but he also had the ability to take over the game for long stretches (Michigan State, FSU, Kansas). Thornton didn't really excel at anything on the offensive end.

Yeah, he may have been a better fit on a specific team, but I don't think he is better overall.

Duval would have been incredible if he came back for a second year. These guys have to do it all in one year now. The guy I really wanted back from that team was Jackson. Him and Tre and we cut down the nets last year.

Assume you meant Gary Trent? Frank left in 2017.

Deryck could have been Tre’s and Goldy’s teammates, now Tre and Jordan are going to lock up Deryck on defense.
