DeSanto & Buchanan both win gold
at the 52nd annual Henri Deglane Grand Prix in Nice, France.
DeSanto won five matches at 61kg by technical fall, outscoring his opponents by a combined 53-2 mark. He opened with a 10-0 victory over fellow American Nathan Tomasello, and closed by topping Moldova’s Leomid Colesnic,12-2, in the gold medal match. Austin has hit his stride early this season with two international gold medals under his belt in the past three months.
Fellow HWC athlete Buchanan, a 2025 NCAA champion for Iowa, notched a gold medal at 97kg in his first international appearance with three solid wins. He capped it off with an 11-0 technical fall over 2024 Olympian and two-time U23 World medalist Radu Lefter of Moldova.
