Me and my family are going to Destin and staying in the Mirimar Beach area in June. For the ones who have been I need recommendations on restaurants and places to see. Thanks in advance.

The original Donut Hole for breakfast at least once while you're there. Destin Marina/Boardwalk is cool in the late afternoons when the boats come in - AJ's is one of the restaurants there.

There are some local dives on 98 you can just pick one for the experience.

You should head east down to Seaside/Seagrove for a day trip.

I agree with everything in this post. The Donut Hole is great.

If you're going to mirimar you'll be close to Seaside. Head over early evening some time and spend a few hours there. They have a few restaurants but also some good food trucks in front of an amphitheater. Usually have some bands playing. It's a cool place. Also good if you have kids. Just let the little rascals go crazy running around while you take a break and eat a frozen key lime pie on a stick. Just make sure the kids don't see you eating it or they'll want a bite !! Haha don't give them one its for you. You earned it taking them on a nice vacation

We eat at Pompano Joe's a lot when we go. Right on the beach, good food. Louisiana Lagniappe is really good but expensive (about $50-$60 per person).

If you're in Mirimar Beach you can walk to Pompano Joe's. You will go there at least once. Stinky's Fish Camp is about a 15 minute drive, but is excellent. The best meal in the area IMO is at Loui Loui's. Blackened Grouper on a Cheddar grit cake withsauteed spinach and a sauce of some sort that tastes amazing. Have fun. I love the beach!!!

The Blackened Grouper meal is the best meal you will have in Destin. You can get it at Loui Loui's or the Red Bar as they are essentially the same restaurant.

Kenny D's is a great place to stop by at night if you're in walking distance and have some flat beer and watch some pretty hilarious karaoke. They make a pretty good Po Boy, too.

When in the area we usually drive from Navarre Beach to Pensacola Beach. It is a beautiful 14 mile drive alongside the ocean. It has nothing but white sand dunes and beautiful water, it is preserved nothing built on it. Anyway, we go to Peg Leg Pete's on Pensacola Beach. Your turn on Ft Pickens road and go by past Margaritaville and go about a mile or two. Best seafood in the area. One evening Peter Gammonds sat right across from me, he was in the area covering the Braves in Ft. Walton for ESPN. Howl At The Moon is a great night life place with Piano comedy, it is on the boardwalk outside of Destin, fun and even can take the kids.

Maquire's for burgers

Dewey Destin for seafood in Destin. If you are really wanting to stay in and cook seafood, I suggest Sexton's Seafood Market.

AJ's is probably the most famous, great view at sunset right on the water.

Mimmo's Ristorante Italiano - best Italian not in just Destin, but can compete with anyone.

**** Disclaimer, I have not stayed in Destin in 4-5 years, my 17 and 21 year old sons have got me staying in Panama City Beach for the obvious. ***

Destin is for poors. Go to Maui like the rest of us. I think I'm getting the hang of this.

I think you can take AJ's off the list. Burning to the ground as we speak.

Lulu's - is a relatively new spot right on the bay at the end of end of the bridge on 293. Owned by Jimmy Buffets sister, food is decent, but the spring/summer scenery as boats pull up to the outside bar is nice. Usually have some decent music.

I was in SanDestin last year, and was eaten alive; by bedbugs. True story; be careful. I am traveling right now, and can't say 100% the name of the motel, but is was a nice place, across the street from the beach.
