Adding Leary would be an awesome step forward for this offense. His numbers are as good as anyone who has played QB at Kentucky in the past 20+ years and much better than most. Overall yardage, TD to INT ratio, everything is just stellar. He can make the short throws, the medium range passes or the deep bombs. He isn't a highly mobile QB but he can pick up some yards with his feet when he has to. And above all else, he simply takes care of the football.

Having a guy that can get accurate balls to Key, Brown and Tayvion while hitting Dingle/Kattus in play action/matchup scenarios....will more than offset running the ball with QB at times.

Leary really never had a great arm to begin with. He's a really good game manager who can run the offense. Honestly, not that different from Brock Purdy if I had to comp him to someone.

He's not an NFL prospect in a traditional sense, at least not close to what Levis is.

Is he back up to throwing speed?? I’m not familiar w his injury status/timeline.

If he’s back to 80+% then I’d imagine part of the visit will be a route tree to see what all the throws look like and if they pop out of the hand or show indication of regression

Are there any restrictions on Coen recruiting when he hasn’t actually signed a contract yet?

I actually believe he has MUCH MORE freedom to talk to kids since he has NO affiliation with UK YET. So, if the Rams are allowing him to do this, then he could talk to whoever he wants without restriction.

Is this correct or am I wrong????

He had the surgery in mid-October, so he's about 2 months into a 5-6 month recovery. So, probably not throwing at this point. I hope that if he signs with UK he'll be able to throw once it's time for Spring Practice.

Seems like there's a bit of risk with taking him. Who really knows what he'll be like when he's cleared to throw?

I would think this UK staff know more about how he is recovering from the operation he had and has watched tons of tape on this kid. I think it all comes down to how much NIL money he can make. Seems like all the kids want in this day and age.

Let's sign this guy
Let's say UK signs Leary. I doubt Leary will be done with visits after this one, but let's say it happens. Does his injury history concern you? It concerns me. No doubt, he is a talent. In fact, he is one of just a few QBs in the portal who can "make all of the throws" so to speak. But if he signs with us and then goes down next September, then I sure hope we will have another QB to be next man up who is not on our current roster. Not dissing Sheron, just stating what I see with my eyes. Wade might end up being a good QB, but that is going to take some time.

Obviously take Leary if you can get him. And try to bring in a 2nd QB. The remaining guys on the team will not get it done and Leary has been injury prone. Not to mention our OL was a turnstile all year.

This requires a bit of optimism, but I am hopeful our OL will be improved, especially if Horsey comes back. Looks like we are probably getting Marques Cox. With another offseason of prep, Burton and E. Cox should be much improved. Grant Bingham, Nik Hall, and Kiyaunta Goodwin should contribute in 2023. Others may feel differently, but I have not lost that expectation. Time and prep can fix such things. Anyway, Coen can't let our next QB take the number of hits Levis took this year.

Depth at QB is a concern. Leary has been very injury prone. His talent is not a question. But my question would be if Destin Wade will be ready to be next man up. I believe Coen's return will have an immediate impact on development and playing style. If Leary wants to play here, I am all for it. But can he stay healthy for 13 games? That would be something new for Leary.

So Leary comes to visit, but I gotta think our returnees show very well compared to Notre Dame.

If he can throw in March that is plenty of time. His booby will heal to 100% by September and that’s months of preparation with receivers, schemes, Coen, etc.

Imagine having this guy throwing to Robinson, Key, B. Brown, Crowdus, Dingle, Kattus, Cummings, Anderson, Porter, A. Brown, etc. I don't know about the rest of you, but I salivate just thinking about it.

Yes, but can we have an OL that can keep him from running for his life the entire game?

The big question is if the Oline doesn't improve will it make any difference who's the Qback is??

I think you got it. Who steps up and "show me the money". The way MJ talks we are still way behind with NIL. He saids it was 4 or 5 donor's that stepped up to save what we got now. Our AD and JMI need to stop thier bs and start helping.
