Did Cal say on his show he was platooning tomorrow?

I thought I heard him say he would platoon at least 3/4 of tommorow' s game? Is that correct? Liked when he said they were going to get their swagger back!

I didn't hear the show but I love the fact that Cal is willing to try new things then when it appears that it isn't working he doesn't try to force it but is willing to go back to what was working.

the platoon is here to stay unless we are in tight games. the way i see we have 16 games left in conference 6-7 of those will be total blow outs( 15 or more points) . 4-5 will be really tight and 4-5 ( a win by 1-6 pts ) will be somewhat close ( a win by 6-14 points ) so i expect it is used alot in around 11 games exclusively and used only in the beginning of 4-5 games like the last 2.

The platoon is one of the ways that makes it so incredibly hard to beat UK.

This is not a hard concept. We will platoon as much as we can until the situation calls for a change, in game. Whether or not that's 9 or 10 guys could change due to Alex's injury but the point remains.

It's really that simple.

I don't see how one can make it any clearer than this. Not sure why people still ask the question about platooning.

We have not used the "platoon" since Alex went down. It's just become a trendy word that the media and most fans are in love with. The "platoon" was one full team of five replacing another full team of five. Cal has occasionally subbed in four at a time the last few games but lee played one minute against ole miss and only 12 against A & M. There is and hasn't been any platooning since Alex's injury. Cal is simply playing 8 guys major minutes now with Lee hanging on for a few spot minutes unless we're in a blowout. It's clear that after the break Willis and Hawkins are not going to play in any game that's close.

LMAO Poy went down before the UNC game . WE used it all of the UNC game . all of the UCLA game and the first 20 minutes of the UL game and to some extent in the early second half. We used it the first 10 minutes against Ole MIss and the first 7 against Texas A and M . But yea you are right we havent used it since . LMAO . You do realize the platoon means taking some players out ( 3 or more ) and putting other players in . 5 for 5 means zero , zip ,zambonie to do with platooning . YOu are like the 10 th poster to think this . I mean why ? It is not a hard concept for someone with more then a 5th grade education to understand as S&C has said .

I want to see a true 5 out, 5 in platoon system like we had before. I know Cal sees it as taking minutes away from someone by allowing Willis or Hawkins to come in, but it would be nice to see. At least do it the first time, then mix and match. I would like to see Hawkins in there to give teams a different look on the perimeter. Ulis, Hawkins, and Booker should really be able to apply pressure on opposing guards defensively.

I agree with you that I want to see the platoon back to 5 in and 5 out. We did it in the Bahamas without WCS and Lyles and Willis and Hawkins did just fine. I know in the Bahamas some will say the talent was not as good as now in SEC Conference Play but we did play some decent teams in the Bahamas. I believe that the Platoon works better this way and we wore teams down like Kansas and UCLA and that is why we had some big blowouts. I still believe that Willis and Hawkins can deliver in the platoon. We would have Twins, Lyles, Towns, and WCS and then Ullis, Booker, Lee, Johnson, and Willis.

It was always just a way to keep everybody happy. We haven't done it in close games because certain people need to be out there with the game on the line. Lee, Hawkins, and Willis aren't among them.

Totally agree. We absolutely kept using the platoon subbing after Poythress went down. Since the 2nd half of Louisville we have not been doing it except after the 1st four minutes and halftime. That is also exactly why we have struggled the last 2 games. Going away from it like Cal has is insane to me, as that was what separated us from the field.

No it doesn't, not the way Cal described it. Cal's platoon system was two units of 5. And I wish he would go back to it!

Pre game Cal says he may go BACK to platoons tonight . Said the team had more energy and team spirit knowing everyone's was going to get time. Better defensive effort from 2 squads.

I think the platoon was the reason we were steamrolling teams. We just ran them into the grown. Even if Poy is out, we still have players that are quality enough to fill the minutes. Fresh legs and all out balls to the wall intensity is what we need.

He did sub 4 in and that's not what we are used to when we say platoon, for a true platoon were used to its 5 in 5 out.
