Yes BUT,

I think Pringle is better than him. Pringle is explosive and busts through the line and makes plays. Elam, he's a good kid, but he doesn't have the drive.

His play has been about the most disappointing of any player we have had in years. With all the talk of Bama wanting him, we either have done a poor job developing him or Bama was wrong in what kind of player he was going to be and it would have been a major miss on their part if he signed there. I still think he might be better suited for the offensive line where he primarily needs to just hold his ground and block one defender.

He saw limited action versus MSU.
Think Matt suffers from plantar fasciitis a very painful foot ailment. Not sure there is a cure but non straining rest is most recommendation. Imo don't think he will be a defensive factor rest of season.

Bring Larry Warford and Dermontti Dawson in to talk to him about the o line. Larry can show him a paycheck and tell him to redshirt next season - move to the o line-get drafted and make millions. Stay on the d line - get drafted and hope for a pro career

I've been a little out of it on his injury status. If his foot, that is a real problem for a guy his size. Here's hoping it works out for him soon, regardless of his future plans. I have been impressed with Pringle, but it is pretty hard to judge Elam if he has been trying to go moving 340 pounds on a bad wheel.

I think Elam's biggest issue is that he can't seem to lose weight. Stoops has mentioned this before...He just looks too big to me still...

He needs to lose more weight and he hasn't shown he can keep it off consistently.

I have had plantar fascilitis and it is very painful. It took about 4 weeks to get over it. rest and implant in my shoe finially got me over it.

He also suffers from not being a very good football player. He never should have played ahead of Pringle or Middleton.

Pretty sure you just need shoes that fit properly.

He played a decent amount and did ok.

Plantar fasciitis is very treatable. Very painful sole of the foot....often closer to the heel, but also can manifest itself as pain in the heel itself. Typically pain after inactivity.....first steps in the morning.....or first steps after sitting for a while. Usually loosens up to a degree with activity. 95% of the time it's treated with Physical Therapy.....mostly stretches, hip strengthening, insoles, massage, night splinting, modalities, etc. 4% need an injection. 1% need surgery. (The above percentages are merely to illustrate a point). It's self limiting meaning that it usually won't lead to anything worse.....so, you can do any activity you want provided that you can deal with the pain.

It's important to note that people that have had it in the past are likely to get it again in the future. The wisest people continue their stretches weekly to prevent this from recurring.

He also suffers from the dreaded 5* syndrome.

Not his fault one service rated him a 5 star and he got unrealistic expectations placed upon him.

He was in there a few times, he's easy to spot when he's in the game. All you have to do is look for the nose tackle who is just getting into his stance as the ball is being snapped and then you have found Matt.

He was getting pushed around then Pringle replaced him most the night as far as I can remember. I remember cussing at him alot getting pished around showing no explosiveness at all.

Yet if he was at Bama, he would either shape up or never see the field. He would be buried behind equally rated players each year. His non-playing would be minimized.

I said it early on. He is not built for defense. He gets in his stance late. Stands straight up and waits for the center to engage him. No push on the line. Maybe that is what Stoops wants, but no other nose tackle in the country is doing less than him.

Yea that is the take on Matt but it's funny, we were watching at home and there was one play where Miss. St had a ball carrier that got around the left and we all noticed Matt jump a guy on the ground and chase the play and I swear we all said, "did you see that". He actually looked athletic doing it (for a guy his size I mean) and it was something I hadn't seen him do before and that's why it caught us all a little off
