Did the Refs steal the last two games from us?

Refs did NU no favors. NU needs to learn how to pull out the close ones and is going to have to gut out the wins and expect no help. Once the players add some strength and a solid guard to pair with BB the team will be good. BB will be as good as his brother who was a tough gritty player. The team has size and length but not a lot of muscle yet. Once the team plays stronger maybe NU will get to the line more.

When they stop giving us so many reasons to.

Refs make mistakes on both sides. We are not the target of some conspiracy. We’re about as good as our record suggests, refs ain’t the problem. Fans are so biased they can’t see things objectively.

I think the post on the MSU game is correct....the lack of fan support at home has an effect...the home team gets more foul calls....unconscious bias....the fact that almost every other Big Ten schools has more Chicago area alums than NU means we rarely enjoy that advantage.

I am friends with a couple Big Ten football officials. They spend such an inordinate amount of time studying...preparing...etc.....and try so hard to get it right all the time. There's never intentional bias.

Bball is faster and they do more games so they do develop, IMO, unconscious bias. It's near impossible not to see things a certain way if your data set supports that. But that's not about the uniforms.

This has been statistically verified. Home court advantage is mainly from officials unconsciously reacting to crowds -- the bigger, the better -- and giving the home team the majority of 50/50 calls. Video replay should even this disparity out somewhat.

My observation without evidence is that in the college game bigger, stronger players are given more latitude when contacting smaller players.

On the contrary I’ve read a lot of NBA guys say big players like Shaq and Lebron get only a fraction of calls because they don’t move when they are hit. I’ve read the strategy that the refs can’t call all of them so that’s the way to at least slow them up a bit
