I did know that but did you know Ole Curt was a black man with white curly hair?

When he had a fifth of wine he didn’t have a care I hear.
The opening lines to that song really hit home with me because me and my friends would scrounge around looking for bottles to return for the deposit at $0.10 a pop. We didn’t give our money to a black man named Curtis, however- we bought ourselves candy.

Just another reminder of how things are different today - kids today have no concept of doing that.

I did the same thing as a kid. We would walk about a mile to the local store and pick up bottles along the side of the road on the way. Then we would cash them in for a coke and candy if we had a good haul that day.
