Disappointed by some of our guys this year

Really. Zion, Tre, RJ were the whole team. Disappointed in general with the rest of the team this year. Cam never really found it. Ques would give us flashes of good, but not consistent. Alex and Jack never really did much. Javin was generally what he was supposed to be. If our non-big-three had been able to do what they were expected to do, we would still be playing.

How many negative threads do you need to start? Just type it all out, get it out of your system, and hit delete.

Started two threads.

One was about a players hands.

One was about the fact a number of players didn’t really play like they were expected to.

I don’t think I’m lying about either one.

If Reddish didn’t play in this game, we would have lost by more. His defense was insanely good on McQuaid. I know he never found his shooting stroke this year but don’t take this loss and say we’d still be playing otherwise while listing Cam’s name.

I don’t totally disagree about the rest, but I’m not going to immediately start pointing fingers after the loss.

At the start of the year, people were saying Cam might be the most talented guy on the roster and might even be in contention for the top pick. He was more highly rated than Zion. He has been discussed as being a top three to five pick all year.

Yet he had just about the worst FG% on the team. He had the second most turnovers on the team. Zion was a better three point shooter than he was. His PER was barely higher than Jack White.

I think it is safe to say that Cam didn’t have the year anyone desired or expected, himself included. If Cam had played like we had expected, I think we would still be playing.

If there is anyone in that group who did about what was expected, maybe it was Javin.

We were the #1 overall seed, so in theory what Reddish didn’t do during the regular season barred no difference in tournament placement. The only reason we are not still playing is because we lost today and I don’t think that blame goes on his shoulders. Yes, he shot 2-6 from 3PT which isn’t good, but it’s also not game altering horrible. He played INCREDIBLE defense. Yes, he turned the ball over twice but RJ and Z collectively turned it over 12 times. — I do agree that his offense this year was under expectation but we can’t blame an entire season on an incoming freshman playing differently than suggested scouting report. If we go by that theory, wouldn’t you agree that Zion was above expectation?

Jack isn’t a blue chip that we had laying around. He averaged less than 5 minutes per game last year... I can’t imagine what kind of expectation you had set for him pre-season that he failed to meet.

Bolden was a low minutes roleplayer last year. His entire Duke career has been below his pre-Duke expectation but that follows the narrative I mentioned about Reddish... The high school / AAU scouting report doesn’t always translate to college. Injuries haven’t helped his campaign either.

I know it sounds like I’m completely disagreeing with you (which I kind of am) but I do get your POINT which in summary is that our top dogs didn’t have any help. I agree with that and we would have been much better if they had the help.

I am VERY happy with and proud of Marques. That guy really stepped up big time this year and it sucks that he had an injury late in the season. Javin also was a strong player in the paint with blocking shots, rebounding, and finishing plays. Jack was a surprise to start the season off and it was odd and disappointing seeing the struggles he had the rest of the year.

Cam...not what I expected but he was still good and his talent and potential are obvious. I never understood why he was slip and fall so much when driving to the bucket or why he would get the ball stripped all the time. Also, I didn't like the times he would have a break away and during his gather for the layup he would do that one handed cradle of the ball the way that Duval would. That's kind of a pet peeve of mine because you are exposing the ball and it kind of reminds me of the early 2000's basketball when players would do that to look cool. His defense was much better than I was anticipating though, that was a pleasant surprise.
