So yes, here comes the blue bloods. Unfortunately, I assume Steward is a non-issue at this point anyhow.

Man, I'd really like to see - somehow, someway - Duke cutoff from just coming into the area and poaching whatever they want. Yes, of course, I'd like to see NU become an area recruiting power, but I'm not sure that's realistic.

It's just way too easy for schools to come into the Chicago area. I might even go as far as saying that if I'm Collins, I have a quiet discussion with Underwood, Leito and Moser about how to improve things together. Yes, Underwood especially is a direct competitor, but there has to something that can be done collectively ... maybe an understanding about recruiting based on GPA. "You scratch my back. I scratch yours."

I know it's a reach.

What does that have to do with the subject being discussed?

I hear you, it's very frustrating. I even started a thread about how we should consider firing Collins and hiring recruits' families. So yeah, we are all trying to get creative. I'm not sure what the answer is, or if there is even a way to pull it off. But I know this, I'm glad we have this board to talk nonsense over the summer.

Keep the ideas coming!

Send ICE after Coach K if he shows up in Chicago to recruit. Make Cook County great again!

So the consistent and dramatic improvement in recruiting since CC has come aboard is not good enough for you? Our 2018 class was 34th in the nation...

Collins has been here 6 years. In 5 of those years we have finished 10th place or lower in the Big 10. No, that's not good enough. We need to upgrade recruiting even more than we have already because save for that one magical year, it has not translated into results. None of us are sure how to do that.

I like Collins and I hope he breaks through, but t's tough to spend your entire career at a place like Duke where you always have a ton of more talent and stars than your opponent and develop the same tactical coaching skills that will make you successful at a place like NU. I think that's part of the reason the Coach K coaching tree has not been that impressive.

Again, is his RECRUITING good enough for you? Because, if it isn't, I'm afraid you will never be satisfied...

We’ve had some good classes and some not-so-good ones. On the whole it’s been respectable, not great by any means. If we turn it around on W/L, then hopefully the recruiting will trend positively.

As we’ve recognized with Fitz, recruiting isn’t solely evaluated on your ability to get highly ranked kids to come. It’s also defined by talent evaluation. Fitz has built a program on low and medium rated players he’s been able to identify as underrated and develop them. His star rankings weren’t great but we always argued that didn’t tell the full story. The story of Collins’ recruiting isn’t solely told via class rankings. We will see how those guys do when they get to NU. The last couple rounds have been somewhat disappointing in early returns, but plenty of time to flip the script.

Collins has been recruiting at an average B1G level in the 2018/2019/2020(thus far) classes (between 6-8 rank). Sustaining that level of recruiting is more than good enough for the occasional March Madness bid...which I think should be the goal of the program at this point. If Collins can't get there with that level of talent there are coaching problems.

If you believe the more pressing goal is something like a Final 4 then that is probably not good enough

I would be happy if he recruited 13 60 year old short Jewish men, as long as they won games and were regularly in the post season.
