I think they will issue commemorative NIT rings, and then lose in assinbly hall to Murray State and cut down the nets.

Nope, I think he's safe for another year. And I still don't see how they can possibly be one of the last four in now though, but what do I know.

I don't think so. He has the program making money and his buy out is still pretty large.

Depends on if IU is able to get their guy behind the scene first. Or at the very least find out if their top 1 or 2 options has interest, but if not Crean probably gets 1 more year.

Crean is there for at least one more year. The cost of buying out his ridiculous contract is just more than would be reasonable to throw away at this point.

I hope not! I really want IU to get back to elite status and I really believe that Coach Tom Crean will get IU back on that Glory Road...but my fear is that the IU fans are not smart enough to realize that CTC will get them there...I need to go and pray for them...

Just about one week ago in an interview with the IU AD, it was pretty clear that Crean will be back next year. Nothing is absolute in CBB, but the only thing that seemed to be in question in that interview was if the rediculous buy out was the real reason, or did the idiot really think Crean can rebuild and succeed? Considering he was the one responsible for the buyout clause, it is not unreasonable to conclude that he really does think Crean is the MAN for the job! Who knows, it isn't our concern. But it is great to see him running the show in Bloomington.

The buyout is 8 million dollars. And they can spread it out. I don't think they're looking now. But let's say Bryce drew gets Valpo to the final eight. Or even the sweet sixteen. Then they might be able to get a new coach on the cheap that makes the buyout easier to stomach at first.

His buyout drops every summer

It's still around 12 mil right now and drops summer 2016 to around 4 mil

IU bought out a bunch of worthless coaches in the last decade. I don't remember them all, I think one was the football coach, and I don't know what they had to do to get rid of Sampson....but they are not real flush with cash right now. They will take the economy route and Creen is safe for one more year.

Then it's for a foregone conclusion that he's history (barring some miraculous run to a title or something)

he should be fired, but will not be. IU is too cheap to pay the buyout and huge salary for a new coach.

Today wasn't his last game regardless. IU will play in the NIT if they don't get one of the last NCAA bids (I don't think they should get one).

Yes. But not yet.

And then like Billy G he will probably disappear from the face of the earth. The planet will be better off.

I suppose that was uncalled for, but CSU is getting their butt's kicked by SDSU and will probably now be NIT bound so I'm PO'd. No one better to take it out on than IU.

I kind of hope they make the tourney but are in the play-in game. That is almost more embarrassing than the nit.

Hope Crean stays but if they fire him hopefully they go after Steve Alford. IU guy that would continue the mediocre trend with a hometown hero that would be hard to fire. He has been mentioned as a replacement for them.

Did IU really think they had to protect themselves from another program wanting him, by giving Crean such a large buyout. The worst contract since the Notre Dame Charlie Weis contract.

It's strange. I have said the same thing to them and they ALL insist that Alford isn't their guy, that he isn't a big name coach, that he hasn't done anything (and they are right about that) to deserve consideration

They say things like they would rather have Dakich (he was interim coach for awhile after Sampson) back than Alford

Then they kind of wander into a discussion of former players they would like

But it doesn't seem like Alford has any traction at all for the job

I think it all comes down to the boosters, I believe the buyout is to be paid over the duration of his contract so it doesn't have to be paid in one lump sum, also his future earnings offset what IU would have to pay him. If the boosters think its time for a change then IU could negotiate a lower sum and have Crean step down like Tubby did here.

With that said I hope they hang in there and keep Crean forever.

I believe there is a very real chance Crean will be out at IU, unfortunately.

Rumors are that his wife is very unhappy with all the flack Crean is getting. And wants out of Bloomington.

I was shocked to find out that Crean is married to real live woman.
