Do you think Stoops would fire Eliot if it would save his job?

We all know that Stoops and Eliot are BFFs.

We've also heard how loyal the Stoops guys are.

So hypothetically, lets say UK misses a bowl this season. Offense improves as the season goes on under Gran. But the defense continues its embarrassing play.

Stoops is basically told that if he wants to be retained as coach for 2017, a change at DC must be made.

Does he cut Eliot loose or not?

I think he does but at the same time I could see him weaseling his way to keeping Eliot on the staff somehow

If he lets Eliot go then he is TOTALLY responsible for the defense. That's cutting off your nose to spite your face

Does it really matter in year 4...especially when you're a D focused head coach?

We'll still be in this stupid 3-4 scheme for all intensive purposes.

Stoops took over play calling and the defense actually looked worst. The problem isn't Eliot. He isn't the solution, but he isn't the problem.

Actually the second half our defense looked as good as it had all year. Think about it...first half was the first time the defense has Stoops calling things his way and there was confusion all around getting lined up. After halftime those issues went away. I am looking for the SC game to tell the tell as to how much of a realistic change having Stoops making the calls will have.

The only issue with making Elliot the scapegoat (which will most likely end up happening) is that if he blames Elliot for the problems on D, why has it taken Stoops 4 years to figure that out.

I would be ok with demoting Eliot to DL coach next year. Hopefully he cans Brumbaugh. Our DL has been trash since he's been here.

Please tell me you dont really believe that Stoops hasn't been calling the shots on D for four years now.

He will be forced to make some changes due to the declining attendance. Since Barnhart gave him that ridiculous extension, you know he will be to cheap to fire him so he will tell Stoops to make some changes in his staff to try and appease the masses. I doubt that works unless he brings in a big time defensive coordinator and let's him do his thing without a bunch of micromanagement. I don't see anyone like that wanting to come here with Stoops on the hot seat.

Stoops already threw one coordinator under the bus to cover his butt. We all see how that helped Stoop's program. He has only one more trick card to use. After that, you can't pretend it's the assistants fault. You are the problem.

I wouldn't say the defense looked better. I would say they got some very lucky breaks to keep some scores off the board including a INT in the Endzone. We'll see, but I wasn't impressed defensively at all from what I saw on Saturday.

Simple way out for him. Switch House and Eliot, not likely to work but shows he's willing to look for solutions. Question becomes do you switch salaries too?

So a guy making a play in the end zone is lucky lol? Some of you guys can never give credit for anything because you made up your mind after the Southern Miss game. When we get an interception it isn't anything OUR players did...it was the QB/WR fault haha.

Scapegoat Checklist

1. Offensive Coordinator
2. Starting Quarterback
3. Defensive Coordinator
4. Offensive Line Coach
5. Proceed back to one and repeat until fired

Didn't say that. It's that they drove the length of the field, then threw a pick in the end zone. That's not what I would call an improvement in the 2nd half. It wasn't like we had a ton of 3 and outs in the 2nd half or something.

I've been saying this and seems no one gets it. How can anyone think he's not when that's what he's noted for. You going to just watch and do nothing? He telling Eliot what he wants and how he wants it done.

No way to know what Stoops would do most would make a change to salvage their job , especially in Stoops position . This is his first head coaching job , there may not be another one if this gets butchered . If he had some previous success then it could be blamed on the program a little , I think he would for him given that .
