... in Pitino's first year. That hire worked out well, but patience was required then and now again to maintain our collective sanity. Afterall, we are a rowdy bunch. If we weren't who we are ... the Program wouldn't be what it is. Pope, himself, will learn to be a better coach and he will attract better players. This will probably be a difficult year, as a fan. We will be OK, if we can just survive the rantings of our own imaginations. GO BIG BLUE.

Pitino had a more accomplished resume at that point in his career than Pope. Pope has 0 tournament wins in 9 years. Pitino already had a F4 at Providence.

I think Pope should be given a fair chance, but I also think it's fair for the ones that are being skeptical based on his resume.

... at Utah Valley and BYU. Pope had a lot to overcome to succeed on the grand stage coaching at those schools. I think he will be fine at UK, but he needs time to recruit his own players. It's way too early to pass judgement but I like what I've seen thus far, although, as UK fans, it's tough to accept any loss.

Historically, a fair amount of coaches have done it at equal or lesser schools. A tournament win isn't the same as making a F4 or winning one. And at those schools, he recruited his players. Granted, he will be able to recruit better talent here, but there is understandable concerns from some regarding hiring a coach without previously winning at least 1 tournament game.
