Does anyone want to talk PSU FB? Here's a topic, % wise, will Penn State win the National Championship?

25%. Love our odds to make the semis, minimum. Like every team, injuries and luck play a role. But we have as good a chance as anybody. Haven’t been this excited for a season for awhile.

Even with Scheffler in the PGA, it's always wiser to take the field. Penn State is going to compete, but its going to take a fair bit of luck to be the last standing.
Sure. Luck always plays a role. (We were lucky Jimmy Johnson thought he had the 1987 Fiesta Bowl won before the opening kickoff.)

I don't know how you settle on a percentage when 1 injury (in a collision sport) can wipe out any realistic chance.
My thought is get to the playoffs, relatively healthy, then perhaps a % would be interesting.

The implied odds give us about a 10-11% chance of winning it all. That sounds about right to me.
Just to clarify for the layman, this refers to betting odds.
I'm seeing +633 and +700 at betonline and bookmaker. Would that be closer to 13-15%?

I think he means percentage at this time, given the current rosters. That percentage will change depending on injuries amongst many other factors.

In a vig-free world, yes. But they are holding upwards of 20% of the Futures pool.

Yes, I'm removing some vig for a more realistic number.
I was going off of Pinny's +706...but thinking more, they're not taking 20% off the top (as you know, their margins are much, much smaller than the squarer books). Maybe they are more like 10%, which would put it more in the 12-13% range (and if I'm wrong on the 10%, bump it up a tad more, but I know they take more out of futures than straight bets).

It’s not too late for PSU to shut it down. The season hasn’t started, so there’s nothing at stake. Plus, they could dismantle the stadium easily enough before spending the bulk of the $700 MM on the silly renovation.

I'll give a 20% chance of winning it all.
Factors are injuries to top players both on PSU and their opponents .
Players or teams that are presently rated high, or teams that sneak up on the CFB scene. Most of you already know that, but it's been a long time since Penn State has been this loaded offensively 94.

The only person who absolutely can't get injured is Allar. If he goes down, so do our hopes.

I'll add to that. I think we have all the pieces in place to win it, and it will largely depend on if Allar makes the improvements he needs to. As Coach Kotelnicki said those 1% jumps in many aspects of his game. I think he will. And as you said if he goes down, so do our hopes because I think he will be that good this year (along with just enough WR improvement this season).

I just saw this title to a video on espn’s “college” football (😞) page:

“Paul Finebaum: James Franklin will find some way to 'screw this season up'”

😞

I know many here don’t like it but Finebaum’s take (as much of an SEC homer he is) is the general opinion on PSU by the rest of the country.

Way too early to really give any percentage IMO. As others have said, injuries and upsets can drastically alter things. We’ll get a better feel toward the end of the season, but it’ll be very unlikely they get the favorable path of SMU and Boise St to the semifinals that they got last year.

I have no idea why anybody wastes their time listening to these clowns who like to hear themselves talk. Finebaum, Russo, Cowherd, Pate, etc. Who the f cares what they think? They get paid to create controversy and conversation.

I think, YES!

If no, why not?

Shalom
As far as the "if no, why not?" part of this, the correct answer would be: because the odds are against it, just as they are against any individual team.

They probably have a better chance to win it all this season than at any other time under CJF. I'm excited because *I* think they're good, but I'm nervous because everyone else seems to think so, too. I don't like the hype machine.

PSU will make it to the final 4 but won’t make it to the championship.
That would be a disappointing outcome, I think.

If we accept the narrative that PSU is better this year than they were last year, but they get bumped out at the semi-finals again...? Yeesh.

I like our chances with the players and coordinators we have. However, I think the team is still sloppy and undisciplined like we have been seeing under our head coach where the little things pile up where the breaks don't go our way in the big games against well coached talented teams. We make it to the final four 100% but like we saw last season, going to the big game 50/50, winning the big game, 25%.

I keep thinking '94 when I attended and this year with having a formidable O-line, QB and RB staple. TE's are stacked and WR's if they play above average, nothing should stop this team.

And this defense is better than '94's on paper at least.

Shabat Shalom.

Off to my son's senior year of High School soccer game. Noon "whatever its called"

5%. With the same WR coach why would anyone think the team will get better production from that group?

Agree 5%. I think we lose to OSU and IOWA will be tough the week after. We could lose that one? Down the stretch the young talented teams will mature and depth on defensive will hurt us. And James .......

Getting scones and lattes this morning, a guy sees my PSU shirt. After his requisite, “Go f*ck yourself”, it goes like this:

Him: What’s the outlook for this season?

Me: High. Very high.

Him: Too high, I’m afraid. * smiles and laughs *

Me: 😞

I’d say you’re giving way too much credit/blame to a position coach.
It is difficult to get the ND performance by the WR out of my mind with zero catches for -1yd. This for a position group that until the arrival of Coach Hagans was putting players into the NFL regularly. Yes I blame the position coach for the dramatic drop off in WR performance.
