MSU has talented players and their scouting report was to attack NU's perimeter players by playing NU players tight and force NU to take the ball to the hole or try to post up MSU. NU does not have anyone who can post up consistently and we need recruits who can get some interior post baskets and McIntosh and Lindsey were not quick enough to penetrate against MSU athletically talented guards. The ball pressure on McIntosh and Lindsey led to 6 TOs in the first 10 minutes. This coupled with the fact that MSU made 75 percent of their shots in the first 10 minutes led to NU falling behind too much in the first 10 minutes. This year, MSU had the no. 3 recruiting class in the nation in no. 11 Miles Bridges (injured), no. 19 Joshua Langford, no. 32 Cassius Winston and no. 40 Nick Ward. Winston's quickness and athleticism made it very difficult for McIntosh and led to too many TOs. The only players who played with the aggression to attack MSU's pressure defense were Law and Taphorn. Lindsey played too tentative, but he will learn from this or NU will not get to the tourney. NU's Big 10 success this year rides with the performance of Law, McIntosh and Lindsey. McIntosh and Lindsey went 6 for 25 from the field and that will not cut it against the athletes of the top half of the Big 10. MSU is a top 4 Big 10 team (Purdue, UW, MSU and Indiana) even with 5 early losses. McIntosh will have to play his 33 minutes and NU will live and die with him on the court.
