Does the qb competition have to be nice?

I like our guys getting along but I want this competition to be fierce. The guy who wins this thing has got to be the Alpha male of the offense, the undisputed leader on the field. I want this guy to be the one that walks into this competition and say's "Which one of you sob's is finishing second"! I want this guy to call out a receiver who drops a perfectly thrown pass over and over and who chews an offensive lineman who jumps off sides 2 to 3 times a game. Yep, some say this may alienate the others but I say guys on this team want and need a fiery leader who isn't known as coach.

Players' are different. Some are full of fire (Johnny Football) and some are cerebral (Eli Manning). Coaches have to detect this and know what buttons to push. I hope the coaches break the code on "when to hug 'em and when to slug 'em" quickly because we're going to have to catch lightning in a bottle and develop an inexperienced QB for live-fire during a tough schedule.

Maybe not nice but the last thing we need is another QB issue that divides a locker room. I think Grans coaching experience and maturity will go a long way in keeping that from happening.

True but if one guys steps up and crushes the other guys early then the coaches should announce him and give him the reps with the number 1's. Don't pull this thing around all summer like last year.

From what I can tell, Hinshaw wants toughness & will go to next up in a heartbeat without it. JMO.

It will all depend on which guy wins games, in the end. Preseason, Spring - all that matters in theory, but in practice the gamer/competitor is who you want on the field.

I get what your saying but we are installing a brand new system. Most of spring will be implementation. The quarterback competition will probably go into the season.

But, don't you think that the longer it takes to name the starter hurts continuity with his playmakers?

It does to an extent. The question the staff has to ask is naming some one early more important than picking the best fit? I would love a qb to be named starter after spring I am just not sure how fair that is to the players our the new oc.

I agree with the OP, bad blood is exactly what is needed in the locker room. Nothing like potential locker room issues to help a team take the next step:100points:

Good post. There is not one key to leadership except all leaders must be the example they wish others to be. Hard work and emphasis on team and helping others get better. This can be done quietly with unwavering expectations or can be vocal in praise in correction. Any leader who tries to pretend to be a type of leader he is not, will likely not succeed.

Very true. As a long time manager and small business owner, I can attest to your words of wisdom.
