Had warmup top on whole 2nd half I think. Thought he was active as usual on defense and I think was 1-for-1 shooting in 1st half.

I'm guessing aggravated the injury? I'm not a doctor and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express.

Pretty sure he's having tonsil issues. Don't know how that affected his play tonight, but it can drain energy quickly, and make you feel like crap.

Cal pretty much said that he didn't feel comfortable playing DH the second half because the game was too close...Interesting that he continues to cover some of the a$$e$ no matter how hard they play...

That's good, because I didn't either. I'm glad he hit the 3, but with our offense struggling he is not the guy I want in.

Wasn't it close when it was 0-0?

Love me some Cal, but I do think he takes some "liberties" with his answers sometimes. He wants to start him so he can continue to say he's platooning. Period. He'll play him for 1-2 platoon rotations, then starting subbing at a 8 + Lee rotation afterward.

And I'm OK with all of that. The subbing and the coachspeak.

That's all BS, the offense wasn't struggling because of DH

I also wondered why Hawkins didn't play much. Yes he was active on defense and his three point shot looked pretty smooth. His lack of time and Bookers lack of shots was perplexing to me.

Cal just tightened the rotation. It was still good to start Dom and give him some run, it was nice to see a 3 go down. He's healthy and can play just fine now, hope to see him continue to make the most of his opportunities.

I think the rope of tolerance is a bit longer with a couple of players, have no idea why but it is.

Kid can help our offense at times because he moves teh ball better than anybody on our team. Yes, you don't want to give him 30 minutes a game, or take the spot of a better guard, but his energy, and, more importantly, his basketball IQ can give our team a boost at times. I love the way he knows what to do with the ball before he receives the pass. He feeds the post - something this team sucks at. He knows how to set guys up and play as a unit. That hasn't been our strength recently on the offensive end - mostly because we just aren't interested, imo. Preseason and early on you saw how this team could move the ball, and move without the ball, but they haven't shown much of any of that recently. But they can. It's just a "want to" thing. Hawkins always wants to. That's just his attitude, and I really appreciate it.

But please keep using individual characteristics to define what a player can do for a team.

You have to give some players a longer rope. That's why Cal is able to get the players he gets. It's pretty simple. Get the talent. Showcase the talent. Kiss the talent goodbye after one year. Hawkins will be a solid bench guy for four years. You don't have to worry about shipping him out so you can replace him with another 1 & done that's signed on.

I would't want it any other way, but it is frustrating to watch our team just go through the motions at times.

Welp, you're one of the few that doesn't have and ideal why then.

Platoon goes away in tighter games. Not complicated.

Dom gets less rope because...all the guys in front of him are Pros? Maybe??

Push comes to shove in a win or go home situation, Cal will do whatever he needs to do to win the game. However, throughout the course of the season, he will focus on getting his most talented players prepared for the stretch run.

Again, not complicated.

I know one thing, what is in my thinking will stay here. Learned a long time ago some opinions are better kept to yourself.

As noted Cal said after the game he didn't want to put Hawkins in a pressure filled game because he doesn't have much experience with it, at least at UK. Coachspeak perhaps, but it seems pretty clear Cal is most comfortable with the twins and Tyler at "crunch" time. I won't bothering looking at the stats but I don't think Hawkins has shot particularly well from the FT line either, at least for a guard. That's a factor in close games.

I never said it was, learn to read. I said I did not want him in in a close game in the 2nd half with our whole offense struggling. I want the best offensive players in, I never said the offense was struggling due to one specific player. Once again, read.
