James is the key for Nance. Poppa Nance knows Coach James is the best option to get his son ready for the NBA. I'm sure Doug's presence will also help.
It was a nice hire. Have some nice sophomore guards but not much size. Also you have Loyola recruiting all talented kids in all sports and honestly for football and lacrosse how can you blame a kid for wanting to compete for state titles every year at Loyola.
Did Larry ever play for James? Or Collins Sr.?

Well, unless you're a scumbag h.s. coach, you can only get the best out of what you have, and the new coach always had fundamentally strong teams. You'll like the way his teams play. We'll see if the feeder system into GBS can be improved. I look forward to the results in a few years.
GBS has de emphasized sports so much in the last 20 years it will be interesting change
Didn't Jack Cooley go to GBS? A 6'8"-6'9" that the former NU coach missed completely and would have been a perfect fit to play alongside Shurna and start from Day 1 and get 15-20 ppg and 10-15 rpg. He turned out to be a two-time all Big 10 performer at ND because BC could not evaluate and locate guys in his own backyard. He also missed on former Deerfield HS standout 6'8" Duje Dukan who played on the UW 2 Final Four teams and made it for a year on the Sacramento Kings. I love the CSL. I believe Tino Malnati is from that conference (New Trier grad). Collins knows talent unlike prior coaches.
I second that slogan, having traveled the same route (albeit for grad school; made the mistake of going out east for undergrad!)
Pretty sure he didn't because ND was in the Big East when Jack played there.....

Probably makes sense to an outsider, but I really don't get the sense that Collins is looking to go anywhere anytime soon.
I agree unless somehow NU has told him he is making the top dollar they will ever pay. The administration hasn't been trending that way, rather they have been supportive and investing big money in the program and facility. I think even if he has a great season and offers come, he is getting a lot of support at NU and if he doesn't have a great year the "bigger offers" won't materialize.

Agreed. That tweet is speculation, not reporting.
And just to add, the buyout of his new contract would be very large. Not saying that the biggest of the big programs couldn't pony it up, but it would be a deterrent for sure.
Nevertheless, no reason not to take him at face value for now that he wants to build his program.

Jack Cooley had NU on his short list. We recruited him hard. Not the first or last player (continuing today) that we lost to ND.

I get that you're a younger poster with slight crossover with Carmody--and that you are not a fan of BC. Still, I have a problem with you trying to perpetuate a myth that wasn't the case. Those of us followed the Carmody recruiting saw us lose a bunch of guys to Purdue, Wisconsin and Notre Dame. The conversation used to be that BC and staff were pretty good at identifying talent--and we'd often be the first B1G school to offer--but we couldn't reel them in. We were the first B1G school to offer Robbie Hummel, one of the all-time Purdue great college players. The staff wasn't oblivious at identifying talent. They signed some good ones, but missed on a lot more targets that were also good or better. (We did then and we still do pat ourselves on the back for being on the shortlist of guys who take other great offers.) But there's no doubt that Collins is recruiting better than anyone in NU's history and filling the team with unrivaled depth.

Yes, I meant two time All Big East performer Jack Cooley who did not play his first two seasons at ND when he would have played from Day 1 at NU.
No, I am not a younger NU fan. I have been following the team since 1980 which means I have been following NU for 37 years. I was there during the Rick Falk Era, Bill Foster era, Ricky Byrdsong era. I have talked to sources close to Duje Dukan who has said there was no interest in going to a team led by BC.
But on to much bigger and better things. Congrats to Jordan Lathon for making a great choice and bringing the first of a great class of 2018.

But in all fairness Latham did mention passing up the chance to play in front of 14,000 diehard fans at Iowa State was difficult.
ISU has an amazing home court at Hilton Coliseum.
But extrapolating from the Michigan and Purdue games, WRA can have a game day atmosphere every bit as good, with people right on top of the court. That new building will be loud!
Agree with a lot of what you said but always wondered if NU lost some highly ranked kids because they didn't want anything to do with the PO. Thoughts?
Not trying to get off topic here but Glenn Olson at Niles North is the best bball coach in the CSL conference. I am a little bias as I've played for him at his stop before getting the Niles North job. But he has coached teams with far inferior talent and gotten the most out of them, game after game. His kids play hard for him and are very fundamentally sound. He really knows how to coach.

The new WRA is going to be great. Will be loud and intimate. A real home court advantage for Big 10 games.
