AMC has a new documentary out on Jim Jones and so far the first episode is pretty good. Does anyone find it odd that one of the most prevalent sayings in society is about 900 people committing suicide?

I actually can make a little sense out of this for everyone if they would like. Jim Jones was from Indiana. It explains a lot.

-shostakovich for one was amazing...of course uncle joe stalin woulda sent him to Kolyma had he not towed the party line.

-the decemberists. Billy bragg. The clash. Dead Kennedys...and myriad indie rock/college rock/punk acts are commie-types.

Years ago, I served with one of the guys who moved in with the US Army out of Panama after the mass suicide at Jonestown. He was slightly involved in the recovery operation. Hardcore dude. He told me the incident was the most awful thing he'd ever seen. Bodies on top of bodies. The stench, because of the climate, sickened everybody on that team. This was back before troops were classified with PTSD.

pro tip:
LOTS of them were essentially murdered (bullet or kool aid) and good ol' uncle jimmy took the cowards way out...
another "savior" who could not cure his own vision problems.

This wasn't a "pro tip." It was simply a statement. Just sayin'.

Wow....he was one of my favorite Packers. Didn't realize Jones had went off the rails.

When asked about Chones leaving during the season to play pro basketball, Al McGuire said "I looked in his refrigerator, then I looked in mine. How could I tell him no?" I never dreamed he would end up leading a cult to a mass suicide. Very sad.

He's one of the all-time greats.

I have customized stickers on my les Paul that includes a pic of Mr jones in his characteristic black shades and the caption simply says “trust me”

A little insensitive I know
But you should SEE my Les Paul - it’s a bad bad Girl

I did a fairly decent review if the Jim jones Coit as an undergrad....fascinating and disturbing

YouTube links used to exist that have the audio of him giving a “last sermon “ of sorts as he’s telling the mothers in the congregation o not be afraid and to release their babies/children over to his staff for their final moments etc

There’s wailing in the background and Jones sounds clearly deranged

It’s pretty chilling
I don’t recommend it

But I bet it’s still out there too
